MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Lots of chatter around this one today.

Braves broadcasters rip on the Dodgers for wearing t-shirts during BP.

I linked the article above even though it was more of an opinion piece so I could quote this part right here:

Baseball has a youth problem. MLB desperately wants to gain young fans, but allowing regional sports networks to continue to hire old white men broadcasters who seem to hate today’s game is only pushing them away. When guys like Joe Simpson have nothing good to say about the game and decide to criticize players for being comfortable during PRACTICE, it’s not helping anyone.

It's an opinion, not fact but I tend to think they are on the right track. Hell, I am an old white guy and a lot of the different team announcers piss me off to no end for this exact type of stuff.

Marty and his fuckheaded kid were going on the other day about how old school discipline is what the interim manager has brought back to the Reds and that's why they were "winning" again.

Former left-handed pitcher Billy O'Dell, a two-time All-Star, died Wednesday in Newberry, S.C. He was 85.

Clemson announced O'Dell's death on Thursday. He was a pitcher at the university before beginning his 13-year stint in the majors.

No cause of death was announced.

O'Dell went 105-100 with a 3.29 ERA from 1954-67. He missed the 1955 season for military service.

O'Dell was traded to the Milwaukee Braves after the 1964 season and spent 1 1/2 seasons with the club, the second campaign being the franchise's first in Atlanta. He was dealt midway through the 1966 season to Pittsburgh and finished his career with the Pirates in 1967.
