YupWhich is where ultimately it looks like all they care about is the money and don't give a damn about the sport for the fans. They will ultimately lose in the court of public opinion barring some unforeseen media campaign.
We all know it's more nuanced than this but the lowest common denominator will end up being, "all the other sports have a cap and they don't have the competitive imbalance, baseball doesn't have a cap and only the big spending teams are competing for the title every year."
I just don't see how the players overcome that.
The interesting part is now that Tony Clark is no longer the head of the MLBPA, there might be some wiggle room somewhere. The new interim director has worked in the NBA, NHL and NFL....
If Tony Clark was still there, you absolutely know the players union wouldn't give a rat's ass about public opinion and be tone deaf to the whole thing. they still might not, but the guy leading them now has extensive experience in capped leagues at least...
