MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

The Yankees are not a savvy enough organization to pull it off imo

Technically they weren’t under George (lucked out that he got banned from baseball a few years) but they are even more poorly run under Hank and Hal. Cashman is washed up and their analytics team is behind the curve.

If this was the late 90s early 2000s I’d bet on the Yankees getting Skenes but the post 2010 Yankees are too poorly run to pull it off without doing something stupid.

Their window with Judge is closing too, he’s 32-33 now.

Too bad the Os don't have Mussina about now. They'd be a shoe in for the series.
So they do have GrayRod and Burnes and should get Dean Kremer back in a week or so....

They absolutely need another starter. I think Povich is going to be a good one but he's a rookie right now. Suarez has been a bonus but I don't think he should be a regular starter. Cole Irvin is a good 5th starter. If they can swing a trade for another starter (better than Kremer at least), they have a good shot because this lineup is legit.

Also probably need another bullpen arm since Coloumbe is down til September.

Wouldn't it be great if those "fringe " starters had enough humility to make themselves a valuable bullpen piece for a title run instead of being DFA'd because nobody needs 3, 5th starters?

I dream of these things

Suarez pitched in Korea last year.

Irvin was one bad outing from being DFA'd last season.

Both have been in the bullpen this year already a few times. I don't think it's an issue. Povich was probably going to make the bigs sometime this season but they had to accelerate the timeline because of the Kremer injury. Kremer is a legit 3rd starter now, they need another guy at his level (or better of course) so they have the pitching needed for the playoffs.

I wasn’t talking about the Orioles exclusively

Rockies win in walk-off after bases-loaded pitch clock violation

Ryan McMahon drew a bases-loaded walk on a full-count pitch clock violation by Kyle Finnegan as the Colorado Rockies scored two runs in the ninth inning for an 8-7 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night.

It was the first game decided by a pitch clock violation in major league history. Nationals closer Finnegan leads the league with nine pitch clock violations this season.

"I'm just trying to focus on the pitch and then location," Finnegan said. "I thought I picked up the clock. I guess by the time I picked up and looked at the catcher and delivered the pitch, I was just a hair too late. Those situations, it just can't happen. We deserved to win, and I wasn't able to do my job."

"You hate to see a game decided that way, but I'm happy it worked out in our favor," McMahon said. "I'm never looking [at the clock]. I'm letting the umpire do his job. I didn't know what was going on until the umpire said something."

The pitch clock was adopted in 2023, but the time between pitches with runners on base was shortened from 20 seconds to 18 this season.
