MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

If it were up to me I’d keep this format but make every round a best of 7. Best team wins over 7 games a high percentage of the time.

3 and 5 are just too short and random. Anybody can beat anybody in MLB over 3 games.

Right now Game 7 of the World Series would be November 4th. I don't think anybody wants baseball to last another couple weeks.

A seven game wild card round? Guys have played 6 days a week for seven months and they're going to take two weeks off?

A two-week bye is not advantageous in baseball.

One game wild card. Don't want to play in that then win your division. Then seven game series after that.

I think best of 5 until the CS would be great. Then do the 7. Could even decrease the regular season by maybe 2 games to get the playoffs going faster.

Wild card series of 3, 5, or holy hell 7 games make no sense to me. It's a disadvantage to division champions.

WTF is the point of winning your division if it hurts you? This isn't football. A week (or two) off doesn't help you.

I get that the media wants to talk about something so they get people spun up about whatever this year's results bring but this is much ado over nothing.

You have a regular season and a tournament. MLB has a six month long, grueling bitch of a regular season that crowns division winners but no overall champion. Then it has a quick 30 day tournament and says that determines who the "real" champion is. It doesn't matter what the format is, a tournament is always going to have some people up in arms about it.

Given that MLB has the game that is most vulnerable to random variance, it's likely to always have these spells of oddity. In baseball, the best team in the league can be an absolute mess for a week. The best player on the planet can easily have an 0-20. It's the most anti-tournament sport you can think of really.
