MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Rays draw smallest playoff crowd since 1919, below 20K.

Year in and year out, they're at the bottom of the league in attendance despite fielding mostly competitive teams. How does this franchise remain in that market?

It seems putting a team that struggles to draw anyway in the 3 PM slot on a weekday was something that could've been avoided.

The Phillies could've played at 3 PM and it still would've been a packed house.

Phillies game has a good vibe. Especially if Skip fucking Schumacher tastes defeat and humiliation. Fuck that guy.

Brewers vs Dbacks is a baseball meteor game for me although the attention whore behind home plate with the massive cans is always a good show.

Couldn’t care less about the two AL series.

With Arizona leading in game two I'm noticing I wouldn't mind seeing the Brewers get bounced out at home.

And The Trop is in an awful location....southern St. Pete, well away from where most of the people in the area really are....

If/when they build a new one, it needs to be closer to Tampa.

It appears they've learned nothing. I remember driving by the Trop during Spring Training. It was halfway between Tampa and Bradenton.

Unpopular opinion? I liked the wild card more when it was one game. I don't need a three-game series. Don't want a one-and-done scenario? Then win enough games that you're not in one. It's also not really an advantage for the higher seeds to have almost a week off. This isn't football. Baseball players are used to playing 6-7 days a week for months. Now you're off for 6 days and trying to get your timing back.

Turns out one game would've produced the same results this year, but only half the revenues.

I don't mind the format, I think the games just sucked.

If we had 4 games a day for 3 straight days with a winner take all Thursday this week everyone would be talking about how great the new format is.

It's just the random variance of baseball. I'll pay the price for a few 2 game snoozers over time for all the extra excitement in the regular season it creates with the extra wild card slot.

Rays are also looking to upgrade their stadium. They will do so by attaching their new stadium to a mall and have the fewest available seats of any team in MLB. About 30k.

The outfield will be almost entirely club seating and entertainment areas.

Looks nice but people still have to be willing to drive to get to that mall and all the entertainment areas. That seems to be the sticking point they missed last time.

Who even goes to malls anymore? Hot bed for scumbags and overpriced shit I don't need. No thank you to the Rays and any other team mixing my sports with other bullshit.

Can't we just go back to the 80's pre sports strikes for everything? Damn
