MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Luebke in the 3rd round here Reds would be awesome. Two more picks until Cincy.

Kellen Kulbacki, JMU just went 40th to San Diego. That guy can absolutely crush a baseball. I surprised he went as far down as he did. He's only a junior and his last two years were phenomenal.

Andrew Brackman from Cincinnati Moeller/NC State just went 30th overall to the Yankees...here is his full scouting report.

Minor League Baseball: Events: 2007 Draft Report

That could very well be a steal, he has had injury problems this year with his elbow, but he was a 1-2 pick in terms of talent and at 6-10 and him hitting 100 b4 he is going to have to use his whole arm to get the ball in teh mid 90 range...

BTW the Reds have taken a high school cather and a college SS...Both look to be solid players...

Just a couple other things from watching the draft, which was pretty good, it isnt a popularity thing like it is in the NFL, NBA where they get 15 minutes to pick, and they just talk about the same thing, but this is more like the 3rd-7th round NFL draft where you aren't familar with the guys, but with the MLB draft they did more reporting on the guys, with each pick, gave a nice overview of what goes on with the minors, and how they get to the majors and just some other things like signability, and other things...Very nice 3 hours spent of my time...Much better than anything else they would put on ESPN 2 at that hour of the day...

1st 5 rounds are done and Torrence wasn't selected. The draft picks back up tomorrow......looks good for him donning S&G more and more.

Don't be suprised at this point if he starts to fall even more...I am sure a team knew that if they really liked him they were going to have to draft him early or shell out money, considering that he either wants enough money or he is going to play football...The MLB draft is all about signability...

Former Moeller star Andrew Brackman remains unsigned by the New York Yankees. No shock there, as most 2007 Major League Baseball first-round draftees remain unsigned.

Brackman, taken in the 1st round by the NY Yankees earlier this month, is a 6-foot-11 RHP who just completed his third year at North Carolina State.

Only a couple of MLB first-rounders have signed. Brackman's father, Mark, told me he doesn't think Andrew will sign until August.

MLB teams have an Aug. 15 deadline to sign all draft selections except college seniors. Clubs that can?t sign their first- or second-round picks will be slotted in for a compensatory pick at the same slot in next year's draft.

Andrew Brackman is represented by Scott Boras. Boras is as big as it gets in the agent business.
"He told us, 'Just trust us, hang in there,' " Mark Brackman said.

I've been unable to reach Andrew Brackman for comment -- "He's at the beach," Mark says. Mark says Andrew has been working out, running and lifting weights. The family is pleased to be in the Yankee fold, Mark said.

"It's cool," Mark said. "We can't wait."

Rockies first baseman Todd Helton, left, celebrates with Troy Tulowitzki after the last out in a 6-4 win that completed the sweep of the Diamondbacks on Monday night.

DENVER -- The bars along Blake and Market streets were still going strong into the early morning yesterday, as Colorado Rockies fans celebrated what only a month ago seemed unfathomable. Inside nearby Coors Field, the Rockies players sprayed Domaine Ste. Michelle champagne around the clubhouse, topped it off with Coors beer and celebrated what only a month ago seemed unfathomable.

Commentary: Rockies have everything to be America's team

Saturday, October 20, 2007 3:29 AM
By Bernie Lincicome

Baseball does not have an America's Team, and it should have one since baseball is America's sport, or so it becomes along about this time of year.

I nominate the Colorado Rockies for the title, even if the Rockies are restricted by name to a single state. It is still better than the New York Yankees, state, city or state of mind.
The Rockies are what America means, or what America should mean, varied and hard working, decent and honorable, upright and compassionate, all of the things that winning a championship just naturally embodies.
