MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Step on the bag, you doofus. Ffs Pirates.

I was so stupified by this play that I didn’t even realize there were 2 outs. So in a weird baseball quirk, the runner technically shouldn’t have been called safe at home? It’s pending the outcome of the batter reaching first (similar to any other ground out to end the inning). So this 1B could have still, at any point(!), just turned around and thrown to the force at 1.

I get why the ump signaled. You have to know the result of the tag, just in case. Someone in the comments called it “Schrödinger’s Plate”

(I do take issue with Tim’s assessment that “the chaos of this play was due in good part” to this. No, this chaos was due to the Pirates being on a baseball field)

The next batter singled in Baez, so this dumbfuckery ended up costing the Pirates 2 runs. What was the final score?

Cubs 5
Pirates 3

I'm still amazed by the next level dumbfuckery displayed by Baez to be honest.

Then to have the Pirates 1B say "hold my beer" is what makes the whole thing so extraordinary.

I've watched that 50 times now. Cubs players are just laughing because it's like a Little League rec ball bunt home run. Then the Pirates radio call just puts the cherry on top.

Epic all the way around.

Baez did nothing wrong. You could argue retreating towards home would only trick an idiot, but Will Craig was stupid enough to take the bait, and the result of the play makes Baez look brilliant.

He steps back on first and what kind of fucking moron do you look like running back home after putting a ball in play? Especially with 2 outs.

Don’t confuse the result with the intent. All that 1B had to do was turn around, cover a couple of steps and step on the bag. Baez didn’t have much choice there after beating a head high pitch into the ground but running back home is imbecilic. Only a bigger imbecile being involved saved him.

How bad are the Rockies away from Coors Field? They got shutout by the Pirates today...twice.

Colorado is now 3-22 on the road with 10 shutouts.

That’s Redsian level incompetence and I don’t use that term lightly.

Bucs were 3 outs away from a sweep today but then remembered who they are, blowing a 3-2 lead to lose 4-3. :pirate:
