Mizzou Tigers (official thread)

Do we even really know how good he actually is yet? I mean, early on we've hyped up QB's in Ohio many times in recent years, but really not many have turned out to be OSU material. Except for Braxton of course.

I've seen this kid play, and the natural tools are there. He has some learning to do, but what sophomore doesn't?

Brother Ben still holds many all-time records for the state of Ohio, and also plenty national records. They just run that type of offense. If you like his FR/SO stats, combine them, and you'll see what his next year may look like.

While the stats are insane, I wouldn't get too caught up on those.

What I would look at are things like his footwork, which is very impressive. Does a great job at maintaining his balance, solid short chops. The ball comes off his hand effortlessly and he has great accuracy. His arm strength is there without a doubt as he throws the deep ball with nice touch. Has a good feel in the pocket, good athlete. One worry is he gets a little herky jerky with his motion, but typically that is something that gets fixed as he gets older and adds some weight and muscle onto his frame so he doesn't have to turn into his throws so much. He has an issue of keeping the ball down while he's on the move around the pocket which coaches won't be happy about, but on a HS level with a kid like him it's not a big worry. Football runs in the family so you don't have to worry about his football IQ either. The 4 years of starters experience will be a huge intangible as well.

When you break it down, he's got a lot going for him and the negatives are things you'd keep an eye on to see if they get adjusted as he gets older. As far as young in-state QB's go, I find it hard to believe he will be a "hype" kid a year and a half from now.

I agree, this kid has alot going for him. Excellent high school coaching can go a long way for a QB at the next level. He should be ahead of the learning curve compared to other QB's in his class. I would think his brother has somewhat shattered the stereotype that what Kenton does is a gimmick and can't work in college.

My first post so I figured this we be a good one. I've watched the kid play multiple times, not a truly polished passer yet but has the intangibles to become a great Quarterback at the next level.... Good Speed, Very Elusive and super strong arm...gets with the right coaches this kid could put up some gaudy numbers in the right system..(aka anything similar to Kenton's)

BB is watching

VandySports.com - Kenton wins Music City Classic Tournament (free)

The Wildcats were led by rising junior quarterback Maty Mauk. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound signal caller was precise throughout much of the weekend and earned all-tournament honors for his impressive work during pool play. Already possessing offers from programs such as Notre Dame, Missouri and Cincinnati, Mauk will likely be one of the top quarterbacks in the class of 2012.

Mauk threw for four touchdowns on four straight drives during the final against Brentwood Academy, using his strong arm and accuracy to navigate through a very tough Eagles defense. Twice he found senior receiver Dustin Howell in the corner of the end zone, including on the game-clinching score with just a minute to go in the contest. Receiver Max Morrison was one Mauk's other targets in the game and the 6-foot standout hauled multiple catches of 30 yards or more.

QB Jeremy Johnson and WR Antonio Pitts lead Carver High School to National Select 7-on-7 title. - ESPN

Dynamic duo

One team from Ohio that fell short in the final rounds, but made a strong run was Kenton High School. It was led by a rising junior with a last name likely familiar to many college football fans. Matt Mauk, who is the younger brother of former Wake Forest and Cincinnati signal caller Ben, will quickly make a name for himself with performances like the one he put on Saturday. He lacks great overall size at this time, but gets rid of the ball quickly with good RPMs and zip. The 2012 quarterback states he already has some offers, including Notre Dame, Cincinnati and Ball State. One of his main targets throughout the tourney was 2011 wide receiver Max Morrison who boasts an offer from Air Force. A potential sleeper, Morrison is a precise route runner and real savvy competitor. Not the biggest or fastest, but a receiver with a lot of intangibles between the white lines.

Cavaliers Get Mauked at Kenton ? TheMacOnline

For a while Friday night the Coldwater Cavaliers stayed close with the Kenton Machine, but in the end Maty Mauk was simply too much for the Cavs defense. The junior quarterback did just about everything except take tickets, leading Kenton to a 50-31 win, their first victory over Coldwater since 2001.

Offensively, Coldwater hung with the Cats as Reese Klenke pulled in four touchdown passes from Austin Bruns. The Bruns to Klenke connection helped propel Coldwater to a 13-8 first quarter lead, leaving the Cats faithful scratching their heads.

In the second quarter, however, Mauk showed why Kenton is considered an offensive machine. The quarterback tossed two touchdown passes and ran for another score, leading his team to a 22 point second quarter and putting Coldwater exactly where they did not want to be, chasing Kenton. Coldwater went into the break trailing 30-19.

The teams traded scores in the third quarter, leaving Coldwater down 11 points. In the fourth period Kenton pulled away with two more scores, picking up the 50-31 win.

The Cavs will host Ben Logan Friday, looking to pick up their first win of the season.

437 yards and 5 TDs...

Kenton 70, Van Wert 34

I'll look for a recap

EDIT: Maybe too early for a recap, but Mauk had 433 yards passing at halftime as they were up 54-20.

Kenton will be the state champions this year and next barring something unforeseen.
