Mizzou Tigers (official thread)

Well, it appears Kansas and Missouri won’t be playing on the gridiron this season. There was a chance that the two rivals could face off in a bowl game this year, but according to Brett McMurphy of ActionNetwork, that won’t be happening. The two teams could have faced off in a few different bowl games but the Liberty Bowl in Memphis was considered to be the most likely destination. But due to a request from Missouri, the two teams won’t be playing.

Here’s the exact wording of McMurphy’s report, which was released on Friday morning.

“The Border War between Missouri and Kansas has been dormant since 2011, but there was an opportunity for the iconic rivalry to resume in the Liberty Bowl this month. There was just one problem: Missouri didn’t want to play Kansas, so the matchup will not happen, industry sources told Action Network,” McMurphy wrote. “The Jayhawks, who are making their first bowl appearance since 2008, were not opposed to playing the Tigers in a bowl, sources said. Schools provide their bowl preferences and the conferences, bowls and schools usually come to an agreement whenever possible. It’s not unusual for schools to request not playing certain opponents in the postseason, sources said.”

As much as I want to disagree, I can’t.

Didn’t Missouri leave the Big12 for the SEC?

Missouri to Florida is more than 1,000 miles away.

Washington to Arizona State is 1,400 miles away.

I don’t think any team is choosing the 14+ hour bus ride for either of those current trips.

Only three schools in the former PAC12 were closer than 800 miles from Washington.

Cry me a River about how much worse travel will be vs what it already is. Once you’re on a plane you’re on a plane.

He wasn’t at Missouri when they moved.

Not that it matters.
