Recent MMA tidbits:

- Anderson Silva - Chael Sonnen moved from Brazil to Vegas at UFC 148 on July 7th (Cruz - Faber 3 moved to co-headliner status) as the UFC has been unable to secure a venue in Brazil for UFC 147

- Frank Mir will replace Overeem for the title shot against JDS at UFC 146 on May 26th (Cain Velasquez's new opponent is Antonio "Big Foot" Silva)

- Hector Lombard, at age 34, is finally officially in the UFC, vacating his Bellator title. The UFC may give Lombard big fights immediately at 185 pounds due to his age and ridiculous win streak.

- Jon Jones has destroyed the top of his division, and a lot of banter that Dan Henderson will be his next opponent. IMO, the best light heavyweight mathup for Jones at this point is Alexander Gustafsson, who is 6'5" (doesn't have Jones' reach) and has great hands - Jones might not be able to stand with him.

- bantamweight Michael McDonald is ridiculously explosive and powerful for that weight class. He struck Miguel Torres with precise uppercuts. He also has crazy eyes in his post-fight interviews that remind me of Mike Tyson's crazy eyes when he was young, the kind that say "I like violence." Hope he gets the next title shot following Cruz - Faber 3.

- Gil Melendez draws a rubber match against Josh Thompson in Strikeforce on May 19th. Bleh. Just bring him to the UFC already, or alternatively, let the UFC lend him a top opponent since they own Strikeforce.

1. Great move by Dana to move it. IMO, Chael's security would not have been enough to hold off all of those crazy Brazilians. Plus it makes that card in Vegas THAT much more intriguing.

2. Good for Frank. I've always hated on the guy, but he's the model for consistency in the Heavyweight division. Sure, he went through a rough patch, but he's still one of the most well rounded Heavyweights out there.

3. I'm a little out of the loop when it comes to Bellator. Just never was a fan of the lower productions/promotions (aside from Elite XC, RIP). Looking forward to learning more and more about him.

4. What's next for Jon Jones? IMO, it's time to give him Anderson Silva. I don't know if Dana can wait until UFC 200, but if he can, this fight NEEDS to be on that card. Plain and simple.

5. Ever since the UFC merged with WEC, it's been that much more difficult to keep up with every weight class. I have some catching up to do.

6. UFC bought out Strikeforce, but they are waiting until some of these fighter's contracts expire. Dana simply doesn't have enough room to give every guy from Strikeforce a contract. Also, I don't think some of the fighters from SF are good enough for the UFC. That being said, I absolutely can't wait until Gil Melendez makes the move. I think he's the next guy to make a nice run in the Lightweight division.


Also, if you've forgotten about BJ Penn, you better get to know him again. It seems as though he's getting his mean streak back. Back in November when he lost to Diaz, I saw a tired, worn out Penn. It was truly sad to see. He's taken some time off to train and teach in Hawaii. If I had to predict who he would come back and fight against, I would say Jon Fitch is that opponent. If that's the case, I absolutely cannot wait. Fitch loves to wrestle around for 15 minutes, with no real KO potential. Penn is a BJJ prodigy, so if Fitch thinks he's going to just lay on the ground and swarm Penn for 15 minutes, he had better think again.

UFC 148 is absolutely LOADED. Let's hope everyone can avoid injuries until then.
Am I crazy for thinking JDS KO's Mir in the 1st rd?
Jones vs Gustafsson is an intriguing match for the future. I'm wondering who Gustafsson will fight next. Most of the top guys are coming off losses to Jones. Machida? Evans? Shogun?

After a year and a half of Krav Maga training I'm finally getting into watching UFC. Watched Couture's comeback in Ohio from several years ago last week and I taped UFC the other night.

:lol: Funny you say that. Where I used to live, my neighbor had an on-again, off-again relationship with a douchebag boyfriend. He wore the Ed Hardy shit, drove a 2008 Jaguar that he would only refer to as "The Jag" and was one of those guys who talks loudly no matter where he is so that people know he is around. He was also the biggest, and only, UFC fan I knew. He went to all of the live events, even the wannabe local league events. I always tried to avoid bumping into him taking the trash out or whatever because all he wanted to talk about was "that killer UFC fight" he saw the night before.
