The Kangaroos of UMKC come a callin for the final game of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament

Special Note
Even though the Buckeyes received a trophy for winning the large-school division of the Tip-Off, they won?t finish the four-game tournament until playing Missouri-Kansas City on Friday night. In case fans are too full of Thanksgiving dinner to leave the house, or have other plans for Black Friday, they might want to change them. Football coach Urban Meyer and some of his players will address the crowd on the eve of the Michigan game. Savvy marketing for an otherwise off-Broadway event.

? Matchup to watch: Deshaun Thomas will match up with the last of the four basketball-playing Korver brothers, Kirk, who will make Thomas chase him around the arc. Twenty-one of Korver?s 30 field-goal attempts have been from three-point range, and he has made 10.

? Notable: Thomas is 28 points from 1,000 for his career. He is averaging 25.0 points this season. ? Ohio State has won 122 (through Albany) consecutive home games against nonmajor opponents. . . . UMKC is 0-14 against ranked opponents and 0-5 against Big Ten teams. This is its first meeting against Ohio State. ? UMKC center Fred Chatmon is from Cleveland and played at Garfield Heights High School.

? Next: at Duke, 9:30 p.m. Wednesday

Very impressive showing tonight vs. an obviously overmatched umkc squad. Thomas was money as always. Craft is a beast. Very impressed with shannon scott too. Loved the look of the team with him and craft on floor together

Thursday was a holiday for most. The only break the Ohio State men?s basketball team got, though, was from classes.

?We didn?t take Thanksgiving day off,? guard Shannon Scott said. ?We got after it and competed hard.?

Coach Thad Matta had warned his players of the consequences if they did not. On Wednesday, he spoke of a ?myth around here of a few years ago, a Thanksgiving Day practice where we were going to practice from 1 to 3 (p.m.), and at 4:45 they left the court.?
It was no myth, however. It happened.

?I think they know we?re not going to come in and punch a time clock so we can go eat,? Matta said.

Instead, the Buckeyes (4-0) saved that for last night and Missouri-Kansas City, landing an early knockout and feasting on the Kangaroos in a 91-45 victory at Value City Arena.

Matta said after the blowout that he didn?t think the Buckeyes played ?as well as we needed to? in victories over Rhode Island and Washington last weekend in Uncasville, Conn., and that practices this week had been ?very, very competitive.?

?Hopefully, they continue to understand the way we practice is the way we play,? Matta said.
