People get killed all the time in Atlanta, but the prisoner who killed the judge and deputy was covered to death.

Edit: And yes, I believe the Atlanta thing was worthy of the media attention it got up until about a day after. However, I also think a cop being jeered by protestors as he died is worthy of similar attention, yet this is the first I've heard of it.

I don't think race has anything to do with it. I do agree that the girl's appearance DOES, however. Any "all-American" looking, blonde-haired, blue-eyed cute little girl is going to have an advantage in the media. But to say that an ugly black girl would receive any different media hype than an ugly white girl is blatantly untrue, IMO. Race has NOTHING to do with it.

Do you think a pretty black girl will get the same attention as a pretty white one? I doubt it.

Media attention:
1. Pretty and white
2. pretty and black
3. All ugly girls

wait a minute, is this story legit???? i mean look at some of these quotes, they are just plain comical..........Then I saw a closeup, and I thought, man, did a bear get her too?"........... "For crying out loud. The girl's got a gap between her front teeth big enough to drive a car through."..........."Heck, Francine used to scare the cat whenever she smiled. What were we supposed to do?"......... "I'm sorry, but CNN has journalistic standards, you know. At least put a wig on the poor girl."

c'mon, am i supposed to believe these people would go on record with these kinds of statements about this girl?........am i the only one that noticed this?

***edit: if you click on the about Watley link provided, you'll see that this is completely ficticious.......with that being said this story was hysterical, and ya gotta love the satire

I realized the story as a fake right away, but I agree with Tibs on what type of females get the media attention.

As sson as I saw the girl missing in Aruba, I said to my wife "How much attention do you think this story would get if she wasn't a decent-looking blond?"

After 9/11, the crappy media stories about celebrities and shallow reporting was supposed to be minimized, as America got wiser and more discerning.

So now we have the Runaway Bride getting $500K for a book deal, and non-stop coverage of the Michael Jackson trial for months. Things haven't changed much.

Haha! It's funny you say that. I just spent the last half of last week in Philly! I went and saw Ted Leo at the Trocadero, Wilco at Penn's Landing, and the Phillies-Red Sox game on Friday night! I didn't read any of the news or anything, but what I saw of downtown (I made an effort to see most of it) looked pretty decent. I did ride the subway a little bit though, and felt a bit awkward after going above ground at one of the stops - carrying around some $1000 dollars in electronic equipement and cash in the middle of the ghetto. Not the smartest move on my part.
