Minnesota Viqueens (official thread)

Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
NFL exec: Vikes 'out of options'

Two days after a Minnesota House committee voted against the Vikings' stadium bill, the NFL responded with its own strong message to state leaders: Get it done or face the consequences.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told Gov. Mark Dayton on Wednesday there will be "serious consequences" for both the league and the Vikings if the bill isn't passed, according to a Pioneer Press report.

.
Dayton has made it clear he believes the Vikings will leave Minnesota if they do not have a plan for a new stadium in place by next year. Los Angeles, which does not have an NFL team but is progressing in its plan to build $1.4 billion downtown stadium, remains a threat if the Wilfs become frustrated and decide to move or sell the club.

Summary of article: "build me a new stadium (at taxpayers expense) or I'll move my team to LA".

The Minneapolis & Minnesota decided to "pony up":

City council approval clears way for Vikings stadium

The Minneapolis City Council on Friday voted to approve funding for a football / convention center facility, the final hurdle necessary to building a new downtown home for the Vikings. The final vote was 7-6, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, ending a push for a new stadium that lasted nearly a decade. Minneapolis will subsidize about $309 million of the stadium with the state and the Vikings paying for the rest. It will cost about $957 million to build. The Minnesota legislature approved state funding earlier this month.

It seems a little odd to think that Dayton didn’t consider PSL’s would be a part of the formula all along. A NFL team may be moving to LA sooner than most people expected.

Adrian Peterson indicted

Not jumping to a conclusion because families differ immensely when and how punishment occurs with their children
I elected to never hit my children... didn't have to
but I was raised in a very strict environment.. and got my ass beat to hell too often...

especially heavy electrical cord that literally split the skin
just was the way my mother dished out punishment... the way it was.. wasn't a fiendish demented woman
a petite, extremely religious woman... and that was part of the parenting
she was judge..jury.. and you were not even asked your side... you just felt the verdict

still a number of folks who believe in that style..
but I do know... you never give an opinion to another about parenting

I'm sure a bunch of us got our asses kicked by our parents. It was a different time, then. And yes, I've used a switch on mine, and had switches used on me too. But this is a bit extreme. Any time you leave those kinds of marks on a child, someone is gonna say something...

I haven't gotten to read what kind of marks were there with Petersen.. but our switches could leave you with split skin and blood lines.. especially that time I unsuccessfully thought I could outrun her.. that time was really bad... Mom turned into Terry Tate ... you're right Alex.. if that one incident happened today and a doctor would have seen me, Mom might have seen the Po Po... I was wounded

My mother was not malicious whatsoever.. contraire... just the method she knew...
I'm the youngest of 17.. so Mom never sat ya down and explained why it was bad... she just opened up the can of whoop-ass and you had to figure out which one of the dozen things you did wrong did she find out

There still are a lot of folks who dish out punishment in the exact methods they were punished... and my guess is, that's Petersen

PS I'm sure whatever I got punished for, one of my brothers actually did it.. but they probably got pealed for a few of mine... it evens out

ESPN, LOL....

I know Carter is a guy who is near and dear to you guys' hearts, but...I have to disagree with him...

"My Mama did the best she did, but she was wrong..."

Says a guy, who probably got plenty of whoopings in his life, who is an NFL Hall of Famer. Sounds like you can whoop a kid to get him to do right.
Listen, I have two girls. When they do wrong, I get the stick out....but I don't beat them from head to toe, like Peterson did. Been getting them since they both threw their first temper tantrums.

Both...honor students. I don't have to threaten them to be that way, they know it pleases us as parents when they do well. And if they do well for themselves, they start to understand that this is a good thing. So, for the pundits and the 'experts' that say that corporal punishment is not effective...when you prove to me that time outs, and repeated re-direction, and being an enabler of bad behavior works....then I'll stop putting the stick on my kids' rears.

I think it's presumptuous to assume Carter wouldn't have still ended up the way he did without that punishment. Who's to say? There are plenty of people out there who turned out just fine that were never physically disciplined as a child. Just like there are people who turned out to be zeroes even though they were whooped when they were younger.
