MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - After a delay of more than 20 hours because of snow, the Ohio State baseball team fell to Minnesota, 7-0, Saturday afternoon in the opener of Siebert Field in Minneapolis. The Buckeyes drop to 18-9 on the season, 4-3 in Big Ten play, while the Golden Gophers improve to 18-12, 3-1 in conference play.
In the opener, a game that started Friday and concluded Saturday, Minnesota put a pair of runners on in the bottom of the first when Andy Henkemeyer and Michael Handel notched back-to-back one out singles but Ohio State starter
Jaron Long induced a 6-3 double play by Dan Olinger to end the Golden Gopher rally.
Things stayed quiet until the bottom of the fourth when Henkemeyer led off the inning with an infield single, moved to second on a groundout to short by Handel and scored on an RBI single to center by Olinger. After a fly out to right by Ryan Abrahamson, Olinger swiped second on a delayed steal and scored on a two-out RBI double down the right-field line by Mark Tatera. Troy Larson then hit a fly ball to center but Buckeye centerfielder
Joe Ciamacco couldn?t make the play as Tatera came around to score on the error to push the Golden Gopher lead to 3-0 before the game was suspended because of snow after five frames.
