Michael Vick

Michael Vick got a head start on a possible long prison stretch yesterday, surrendering three weeks before he was to be sentenced for his involvement in a bloody dogfighting ring.
The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback surrendered to the U.S. Marshal's Service in Richmond, Va., even though his sentencing in federal court is not scheduled until Dec. 10. Vick is sitting behind bars at the Northern Neck Regional Jail, a 460-bed facility, about 55 miles northeast of Richmond.

Feds Seek $1M From Vick for Pit Bulls

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Michael Vick's "deteriorating financial condition" prompted federal prosecutors to ask a judge to order the former NFL star to set aside nearly $1 million for the care of pit bulls seized from his dogfighting operation.
In court papers filed Tuesday, the government asked U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson to issue a restraining order that essentially would freeze about $928,000 to fulfill Vick's legal obligation to cover the costs of caring for the dogs and finding homes for them.
Vick faces a prison term of up to five years when he is sentenced Dec. 10 on a federal dogfighting conspiracy conviction. He voluntarily began serving his prison term early on Monday.

and

As part of his plea deal, Vick agreed to make restitution for the care and placement of the 54 pit bulls confiscated from his Bad Newz Kennels property in Surry County

----------------------------------------------------------------------
$928,000 divided by 54 dogs = $17,185.19 per dog :yow1:

Is somebody fucking crazy here? Please, give me the $928,000; and I'll take care of the dogs and make sure they get a good home.

A morning news show yesterday stated they took other dogs as well, mostly Beagles, that were used to help train the pit bulls once they became mature enough to fight. Perhaps that i part of the $928,000 as well.

ARTICLE: Two Vick co-defendants get 18 and 21 months in prison (The Virginian-Pilot - HamptonRoads.com/PilotOnline.com)

U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson ordered sentences higher than recommended by federal prosecutors suggesting the length of prison time that Vick is likely to see when he is sentenced Dec. 10.
...
"You can always use the co-defendants as a yardstick, but keep in mind that the guys who come later usually have the higher sentences," said Andrew Protogyrou, a Norfolk defense attorney with more than two decades of experience in federal courts.

18 months for one co-defendant and 21 months for the one with the prior record. Looks like Vick is going to get a lot more than expected.

ESPN is reporting that Vick has been sentenced to 23 months in prison.

I'm waiting to hear the details as to whether there's a high/low amount in relation to that, a possibility of serving less time for good behavior, etc.

I will settle the Vick sentencing bet after I get the details of the sentencing.

One thing for sure - the sentence exceeds that requested by the prosecution (as was the case with his the other defendants in this case).

Disgraced U.S. football star Michael Vick, who has pleaded guilty for his role in an illegal dogfighting enterprise, was sentenced on Monday to 23 months in prison.
...
He faced a maximum sentence of five years but after reaching a plea agreement, prosecutors requested a 12- to 18-month prison term.

Isn't there something that says for a federal prison term, you must serve a minimum of 70% of your sentence? If so, He'll serve 17 months. Right about what the prosecution was asking for
