Hold on...... It is still not etched in stone & announced by the Steelers & Rooneys or official yet. They will have a report on the 11:00 news & I will keep you posted.
If true I'm a little surprised they will pass up Russ Grimm!

    Steelers refute SI story

    Rooney: Tomlin hasn't been hired

    Sunday, January 21, 2007
    By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Steelers chairman Dan Rooney yesterday denied a Sports Illustrated story that said the team has chosen Mike Tomlin as its head coach.
"There's nothing to that story on the wire," Rooney said of the account that appeared yesterday afternoon on SI.com.
Other sources, most unwilling to go on the record, also denied there was any truth to the story. Tomlin, the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, denied it publicly. "It is untrue," Tomlin told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. "I have no idea where it's coming from. I have not talked to the Rooneys today."

As a Browns fan, I think that would be a great hire!

I agree completely. I have even heard that Tomlin might switch their 3-4 defense that they have been successfully running for years to a 4-3. I am sure that would make Dick Lebeau happy. Just speculation of course, but I really think he should get in their and really put his stamp on the organization.

Reports are saying Lebeau is staying. People seem to be down on Tomlin, which I don't understand. He did wow the Steelers in his interview and Viking fans are disappointed he is leaving. Why can't the Steelers make a switch though? The Ravens switched to a 3-4 and was #1 in points allowed and yards allowed. The Patriots won a Super Bowl in the 4-3 and then switched to a 3-4 and won two more Super Bowls. I would rather see the Steelers run their defense the way the Patriots and Ravens do, running a 3-4 and 4-3 in different situations. I see no reason why the Steelers can't run a 4-3 hybrid. The problem with the 3-4 is the Steelers may not have the linebackers anymore to run it. Porter and/or Haggans are gone after 2007 and Farrior is 32. Whatever defense the Steelers run, they desperately need a dominate pass rusher.

Like I said, just speculation and opinions, but to me you don't fix something that isn't broken. Their defense is their bread and butter. And as far as Lebeau saying he will stay, didn't the Rooney's just say that Tomlin was not an imminent hire, and Saban say he was not leaving Miami? You can't believe what anyone says publicly.

wow, mike tomlin - he has proven nothing so far in his career - one season with the vickings as d coordinator and people are on his nuts and giving him the head coach job. i hope russ grimm walks out after being snubbed like this.

What had Cowher proved in his career when the Steelers hired him? He was only d coordinator for two years with the Chiefs. Really what exactly has Grimm proven? He has never been a coordinator. Who has he really developed along the offensive line other than maybe Marvel Smith.
