I am not really sure, if you say so, probably.

I read your comments as saying that he would lose because he didn't have a sense of what the rivalry meant, or how important it was, kind of a lack of caring, or feeling it is as important as it is.

My point was more along the lines of if the because the shoe is loud and an intimidating place to play, he is young and has never experienced anything like what he is about to witness, and our fans will not let up on him all game long, he would make uncharachteristic mistakes.

But if that is the same thing then sure.

We will win the game because of beer....

Fans drink beer...
Fans get drunk (to various degrees)...
Drunk fans yell when we are on defense....
Defense thrives off of crowd noise...
Defense forces a glut of three and outs...
Michigan is forced to punt...
Ted Ginn returns those punts for TOUCHDOWNS....
Buckeyes Win...Buckeyes Win...

Thank you beer...

scUM "fans" in Ohio

It is my expereience that there are only a few types of scUM fans who live in Ohio.

Young scUM - Pre-high school aged kids who want to be different. They don't really care about scUM, but don't want to be like everyone else and cheer on the Bucks. They are harmless, and eventually see the light.

Dumb scUM - Adults (Post-high school) who have no formal association with scUM, but follow them while living in Ohio. They never really got over being Young scUM, and typically have not ever been to a game at scUM. Their sole purpose in life is to live the "hey, I'm different" lifestyle until they die. 90% of us work with or know a Dumb scUM. For fun, when they talk smack, reply with solid football knowledge. They will start laughing and mumble something like "blah blah... Cooper... blah blah... Go B!ue."

scUM by Association - scUM fan based on the fact that the cool kid in high school (that was their "friend") played for scUM. Harmless, but may talk your ear off about how sweet their high school team was.

Real scUM - Current students or graduates of scUM. Also lumped into this group are non-sports fans who have some family associated with Real scUM.

There you have it. If you have any scUM fan additions, please add as I am interested. As a side-note, I just heard a great line. I work with two Dumb scUMs. One asked the other if he was wearing scUM gear on Friday. The response was "Maybe, are you?" "Well, I'm bringing my D. Howard jersey in a bag. If <ScarletWeem> wears his Buckeyes jersey, I'll pull mine out and wear it." Typical.

Go Bucks!

PS - I need tickets for face... now!

I have two prime examples:

1. Is a young scUM fan. It is my sister she always thought it was cool to just say she liked them, also did the same thing with the cowboys. She has never known anyone on either of their teams besides Troy Aikman. But she goes all out for the game and buys a shirt and acts like she is a big fan. But to show how dumb it all is, on monday I saw she had on a rubber band and I looked at it and it was one of the ones that they sold at the games that say tradition excellence, and so forth, and I was like you know that is an Ohio State rubber band and she was like I don't care and continues to wear it. Now we all know that we would never be caught dead wearing anything that had to do with Michigan.

2. I work at a restuarant and I came into contact with a scUM fan he had a hat on and I was talking about the MSU game and how lucky they were. He was like we are just that good we can comeback whenever we want and we make the plays that have to be made. I said if I was the coach I would have put double coverage on Braylon so he couldnt make the catches and made them run the ball for ten yards and eat up clock. He was like well our other receivers would have made the same plays and he didnt even know their names. I was like you mean avant and breaston. He was like yeah. Then I since when do they jump up over the db and make great catches like Braylon and he had no idea what to say.

Then we started talking about our game coming up against MSU and he said we would get beat by 4 touchdowns, and I said are you kidding me and he bet me money they would and said he would be back in to pay if they didnt and guess what I havent seen him since.

That is the type of shit you get with those damn idiots.

Capture The Flag

I am an Elementary School Gym Teacher and every year during Michigan week we play capture the flag with all my classes. One side wears red jerseys and has a buckeye flag and the other side wears blue jerseys and has a michigan flag. I have done this for the past 4 years and the overall winner of the week has predicted the winner of the game every time. I will check back on Friday to let you know the results.

BTW... I live in Cleveland, and saw a guy on the train this morning wearing a scUM hat. Cool hat in theory (because the design was a football helmet translated onto a baseball cap), but sh!tty execution because it was scUM. When we walked out of Tower City, I acted surprised and said "hey man... a sea gull just sh!t on your head... oh, that's a hat... sorry." He laughed until he knew what I meant. By that time I was walking away.

That is one hell of a run-on sentence, man!

No rituals really, other than wearing the same block O "Woody" hat and OSU t-shirt.

There is one thing I can't do- several people have asked in the past about getting together to watch the game. I always pass (unless it's a good Buckeye friend), especially if the person is a scUM fan. If I'm not at the game, I need to be at home for this one. If we're sucking and losing, I get into a crappy mood, and the last thing I need is other people - scUM fans especially - trying to be all happy and cheerful like it's just any other get-together. As we all know, it's not. If we win, I'm obviously very happy, but its still better to be at home so no one thinks I'm nuts for jumping around and yelling about the victory.
