Gary Grant wants to coach at Michigan

AP Sports Writer

Gary Grant was known as "The General" when he played point guard at Michigan two decades ago.

Now, the Mckinley graduate wants to come back to Ann Arbor, Mich., to lead the Wolverines from the sidelines.

"I just want to let everyone know that I would love an opportunity to have the job," Grant said Saturday - a week after Tommy Amaker was fired. "I want to bring it back like it was before.

"I think they need to bring back a Michigan guy."

A message was left with Athletic Director Bill Martin, who has previously declined to comment on the coaching search.

A long time

The Wolverines haven't won a Big Ten title since Grant helped them to conference championships in 1985 and 1986, his first two seasons on campus.

Michigan

I understand that Lon Kruger said he doesn't want to leave UNLV and while I want to believe the Running Rebs' head coach, we all realize plenty of coaches say that prior to taking another job.
What was Kruger supposed to say in the middle of an NCAA tournament run?
Sources indicate that Kruger and Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt are two names that Michigan has identified as candidates to replace Tommy Amaker in Ann Arbor. If Kruger does leave Vegas, it shouldn't take long for the Rebels to bring on alum Reggie Theus, who has done a terrific job at New Mexico State the last two seasons. Oregon's Ernie Kent is campaigning for the job because he wants out of Eugene ? and the feeling is mutual.

I believe some well-known, name guys who are currently between jobs have been lining up for behind the scenes interviews in Ann Arbor. Big names that might surprise you.

How sad is it that the majority of the people here probably meet all of the minimum qualifications?

Do you think they're running out of candidates? :tongue2:

At first, I thought it was hilarious.
Then, I thought it must be a fake.
Now, I'm kinda hungry.
Soon, I'll start thinking that I hope it's real, because it's pretty funny.

Beilein - Tailor Made for UM?

Those 'Eers won the NIT Championship 78-73 over Clemson last night.

Does that mean Beilein is tailor-made for the Head Coach vacancy in AA?

It was the Mountaineers' first NIT title since 1942 when Rudy Baric led West Virginia over Western Kentucky.
West Virginia (27-9) advanced to the championship game by edging Mississippi State 63-62 on Darris Nichols' buzzer-beating 3-pointer on Tuesday. Nichols finished with 13 points and nine assists in the championship game.
With the victory came increased speculation that Beilein could be a prime candidate for the Michigan job. He declined to comment when asked about possible interest in the vacancy.

I don't think Beilein will leave WVU and head for scUM. One of his freshman on the team this year is from Warwick, Rhode Island and I was reading something a long time ago about what Beilein thought about Mazzulla (freshman mentioned above) and the rest of his Freshman on the team. He said that he expected a lot for him, from the freshman. When I read about the possibility of Beilein going to scUM this immediately ran through my head and reading that article a while ago and relating it to this thread, it hints me that he will probably stay at WV.
