Michelle Wie turning Pro?

Re: "She's gonna be rich before she's 19."

According to a published report, Michelle Wie is expected to turn pro sometime between now and Oct. 11, her 16th birthday. And when she does, she will immediately become the world's highest-paid female golfer. According to a report on the Golf World website, Wie could turn pro as early as next week, at which time she is expected to sign endorsement deals with three companies (one of which is believed to be Nike) worth an estimated $8 million.

She'll be rich before she turns 16!!!

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top><!-- begin leftcol --><!-- template inline -->Teen phenom Michelle Wie will officially turn pro on Oct. 5, Golf World has learned, signing deals worth an estimated $10 million annually, then making her competitive debut the next week at the LPGA's Samsung World Championship.
Endorsement contracts with Nike and Sony have been finalized, according to multiple sources, clearing the way for Wie to make an announcement Wednesday in Honolulu.
She'll make it official at the Kahala Mandarin Hotel near Waialae Country Club, where she has twice played in the Sony Open. The time was set at 8 a.m. so Wie could get to class at Punahou School. The idea was to allow her to stick to her routine, although she'll be the only junior already a millionaire.

As recently as Monday night, an agreement with Nike appeared to be in jeopardy. Issues involving the amount of control Nike would have in determining Wie's career direction remained a sticking point throughout the negotiations, sources say, but the conflict was resolved late Wednesday.

Wie will wear Nike apparel and use the company's golf equipment. Sony, the title sponsor of the Honolulu-based event in which Wie made her first two PGA Tour starts, is also part of an endorsement package that will make Wie the world's highest-paid female golfer -- a player whose willingness to compete against men has translated into widespread marketing appeal.

In late November, Wie will play in the Casio World Open, a men's event on the Japan PGA Tour. Her 2006 schedule is expected to include the Sony Open and several other PGA Tour events, up to eight LPGA tournaments (including the U.S. Women's Open and Women's British Open) and a mix of overseas appearances.

Wie turns professional before 16th birthday

By Mike Gordon 18 minutes ago

American schoolgirl Michelle Wie, golf's most celebrated teenager since Tiger Woods, announced her long-awaited decision to turn professional in Honolulu on Wednesday.

The 15-year-old, who has set her sights on becoming the first woman to play in a men's major, made the announcement at a news conference at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel near Waialae Country Club.

"I'm turning pro as of today," said a smiling Wie, who was due to attend her regular classes at Punahou High School within an hour of the news conference.

"I'm very excited and I want to try to become the best golfer in the world.

"But my first priority is school and hopefully I'll be able to graduate from high school in the future."

Wie plans to stay at Punahou High School on for two more years while combining a limited playing schedule in professional golf.

After her last two years at school, she intends to go on to college.

BIGGEST ATTRACTIONS

Already one of the biggest attractions in the game, Wie is set to make her debut as a professional in the Samsung World Championship at Palm Desert, California on October 13, two days after her 16th birthday.

According to several media sources, she has signed endorsement deals with Nike and Sony worth $10 million a year, making her golf's richest female and one of the highest paid athletes in women's sport.

World number one Annika Sorenstam of Sweden, who has won nine career majors, earns around $6 million a year in endorsements.

The only female athletes believed to earn more than $10 million a year are tennis players Maria Sharapova of Russia (around $16.6 million) and American Serena Williams (roughly $11.5 million).

A veteran of 23 LPGA events, Wie is yet to win a title at the highest level but has come desperately close this year with three runner-up finishes and a tie for third at the Women's British Open in July.

YOUNGEST FEMALE

Having made her women's tour debut aged 12, in January 2004 she became only the fourth female, and the youngest in history, to play on the men's U.S. PGA Tour when she missed the cut by one stroke at the Sony Open in her native Hawaii.

In her third crack at the men's circuit, at the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic in July, she missed the cut by two shots after dropping three strokes in the last four holes.

She will become the second female to take on the men on Japan's JGTO Tour when she plays in the Casio World Open from November 24-27.

Wie has made no secret of her desire to go where no woman golfer has gone before.

"I really want to change what everyone thinks about the women's game, make them think a little bit more outside the box," she told Reuters earlier this year.

"I want to play on the (men's) PGA Tour as well as the LPGA Tour, and I really want to become the first woman to play in the (U.S.) Masters at Augusta National.

"My mind-set is that I can beat everyone in the women's game, but I don't really think that I'm the best yet."

I'm raising the BS flag, and raising it high. Nike and Sony aren't paying her a shit-load of money to be a part-time golfer. They'll want her to not only be competitive, but also to start winning tournaments and appearing in as many events as possible to maintain the exposure they're paying for.

If I'm her, I drop out of high school and play golf full-time, because I've proven I can hang with everyone on the LPGA and make a ton of coin in adition to the obscene amounts of endorsements. So what if I don't get a high school diploma? I'll be one of the richest high school dropouts in history.

And in four years, she can do a Playboy spread and double her tour money in 1 day.

Well with the $10 Million and a visit to a plastic surgeon anything can be done ...

But - do you really think she needs to?

I'm betting when she's of age no-one climbs over her to get to you in bed :wink2:
