I thought he did Urban dirty, and personally, think it will really come to bite the football program squarely in the ass.

Now, if you’re about education and furthering OSU’s mission as a research institution.....god bless.

If the football program is your biggest priority (guilty as charged) Drake really contributed heavily to Meyers exit.

If Meyer ends up at ND as many are expecting? Not only did Drake contribute to Meyer leaving, but he also helped place him at the worst possible school that can damage OSU’s future success based on ND’s national appeal.

Kelly seems likely to be at ND for awhile. Also, as much as I respect Urban’s accomplishments, I think he’s just a bit past his prime as a coach and don’t know that he’s got the fire (or the health) to take on another high pressure HC job. Finally, even with Urban I don’t think ND has the allure to the modern Gen Z recruit that Day led OSU does. Maybe I’m a pie-eyed optimist, but I don’t think Urban coaches again w/o his paisans (Marotti, Pantoni, Voltini (sp?)), and I don’t think they’ll follow him at this point (and am sure that Day will do everything in his power to keep them).

Good fucking riddance. And that has nothing to do with athletics. Thanks for destroying beloved places for more admin buildings. Bring Gee back and maybe I will start giving money to the school again. Well, maybe not Gee, but anyone but Drake.

How are people confusing Drake with Gene Smith so badly? The PR around tattoo gate was completely botched as well and that was before Drake was around. There’s a common denominator here, though.

Drake was brought in to run the $4 billion-dollar-a-year monster that is the Wexner Medical Center and the next President will be brought in to do the same.

Go read the report on Meyer, he’s lucky he wasn’t fired on the spot.

To me they should of sent Gene bye bye with Urban. If Utban had to much power and control that isn’t Urbans fault it was Smiths and to some extent Drake’s . Drake should have set a standard he wanted when he came in.

Exactomundo. Folks keep worrying about a football program when the guy running The Ohio State University is trying to run a major company. Football is fun at all and certainly contributes to a sense of pride for the institution that outweighs its financial gains, but it’s still a very small component of what this university does.

And if he had come in and picked a fight with Urban for nothing more than the perception that Urban had too much power within the AD, the anti-Drake faction would have burned him at the stake.

At the end of the day, Urban thought he was bigger tham the athletic department and the university, and he paid the price for that hubris.

Woody refused to be paid more than a full professor with the same years of service. This caused a significant problem when the school fired Fred Taylor. Around the same time, aTm hired Jackie Sherril at a rediculous amount above the going rate. The flood gates were opened on all head coaching positions and Ohio State couldn't find a BB coach who would work for less than Woody was making.
