Money on this: Shannon found out which schools Mauve was contacting and banned him from those schools out of spite.

We are supposed to feel sorry for Shannon now because the media is giving him a hard time after that bullshit he pulled in smearing OSU and UF out of nowhere? I don't recall any cries of outrage from Miami on that one.

We'll likely never know, but I'd like to see the info come out instead of putting faith in a lot of allegations from both sides.

If Shannon doesn't bring fame and fortune next year, he's likely out. However, he is bringing in the local recruits, something that has troubled Miami for many years.

I am of the opinion also that the whole reason Shannon was hired was because of local recruiting.

Personally, I never found Shannon's comments to be that insulting. If anything, it just showed how inexperienced he was at being in front of a mic. He said the wrong thing and got busted. I can see why some would take major issue with it though....

keep in mind, the above quote was then taken out of the article because it was proven false. The reporter tried getting back in touch with Randy, and the SID said he misspoke, knew he misspoke, and that was that...

Kirby Freeman and Kyle Wright, that was a tragedy. Wright came highly touted and was usurped by Freeman, then back to Wright and vice-versa. It's not too different from what occurred this year with Marve and Harris, but I have to say that the talent level from Marve and Harris was well above what it was last year. Freeman could have come back for another year, but also had a falling out with Shannon and was told by him that he was going to go with one of the incoming freshman. So Freeman transferred to Baylor, where he didn't start. Wright graduated and didn't get to the NFL.

I dare say, had Marve not gotten into that accident last year, he would have taken over last year and probably cemented his role by this one.

The linked articles removed his quotes b/c they were inaccurate statements and the paper didn't want to have false info in their paper.

He went out of his way to name OSU and UF specifically saying they have more kids in trouble/arrested than UM. Said something to the effect if people knew what was going on up there type of thing.

He also made a patetntly false accusation about a friend of his getting shot and killed at UF and some similarly unflattering accusations about how out of control the UF players/program were.

He had to give a formal apology iirc and the paper had to do some serious CYA to avoid (libel/slander I can never remember which is written and which is spoken) issues.

Bottom line is it was a completely classes act of lying to try and tear down other programs when they weren't even brought up or involved in the situation at the time (Sean Taylor/Patta incidents).

I have never seen or heard of another coach doing something like that. The fact that he wasn't fired for it, or at least called out in the national media for it, is the delicious irony to me with regards to Miami fans thinking good ol RS is getting a raw deal from the media now.

That's just plain bad. I know half a dozen kids I can name offhand who ran into trouble in Miami, but have since straightened out their lives. This isn't a Sunday picnic in some parts of this city.

Goes back to what I said earlier about local recruiting. Every kid playing high school football in Miami knows about Randy's upbringing and many have faced the same issues that he has. And to see him being able to achieve all he has despite those difficulties...well you get the picture, it's a person they can relate to.
