That should get some award in the Pretentious and Obnoxious Yankee Rich Kids Going to Safety School With Fan Base a Mile Wide and an Inch Deep category...really!

That's the best you can do?

Looks like Florida is the new Convict U - read somewhere there's been like 24 arrests under Meyer's tenure, and 1 under Shannon?

Well, it's not like they were leaving early to go pro or anything...

Seriously, that's great work by Coach Shannon and President Shalala.

New question- Any thoughts on the Shannon to Minny rumor?

Linkage didn't work for me, hadn't heard that...

Wouldn't make any sense...
No ties to the area, or state...
no ties to the university...

On the other hand:
He was BORN in Miami...
Went to high school in Miami...
WENT to U of Miami...
Won a NC at Miami...
Assisted at Miami...
and is now HC at Miami...

I dunno why you'd leave, until ya get booted out, honestly...

I'd say it's BS - someone would have to give me even a REMOTELY PLAUSIBLE reason why a born-n-bred Miami boy would high-tail to Minny. I could understand if he was on the (REALLY!) hot seat here, but didn't they just extend his contract in the off-season?

Plus, I think comparing Minny to Meatchikin is a bit off...

Yeah, I know ya'll have Meesheegan with a passion - but it IS one of the "premier jobs" in NCF.
OSU, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Nother Lame, Miami, Florida, FSU, USCheaters...

I think comparing the two is giving Minny too much credit - not as a knock to Minny, but seriously...

I dunno - I just can't see Shannon yelling "GO GOPHERS!"

shit - I can't see ANYONE yellin' that!

All kidding aside, that is an accomplishment to be proud of.

Not many schools can boast of being in the Top 25, and graduate over 75% of student-athletes.

We must remember, after all, that "student" comes first in that term. Not everyone goes on to the NFL and makes 50billion dollars over 15 years. This gives them a degree and career they can fall back on.

Kudos to all the schools and student-athletes at ALL schools for workin' hard!

Sorry but I need more information to be impressed, just because a university awards a degree doesn't mean it is actually worth a whole lot in the"real world". See article below on the scUM program.

1. What degrees are these 75% of student-athletes getting?
2. How much $$$ are they making per year on their first job after graduation?

I'm realistic - I'm not expecting NCF players to pursue a law degree...

Let's be grounded for a sec...

These guys spend a HUGE amount of time practicing, training, etc...
There is NO reasonable way they can be expected to both compete for a NC, while majoring in, say, accounting.

We gotta be clear-headed about it - that's just not possible...
Tougher majors require tougher classes which require more time for study, etc...

If folks think that studies won't impact football, or that football won't impact studies, well, I got some land for ya out in West Florida...
Going' real cheap, too, because it's near Gainesville... :)

Miami of Florida has five national titles.

Minnehaha has six.

Just sayin'...

You don't get out much, do you?

This has been discussed, ad nauseum, by me, on other threads, and I saw no need to revisit the umpti-million posts. When we hire coaches like Jimmy Johnson or Barry Switzer I will be worried.

Don't know if Calvinist gets out much. I do know Shark, who posted the original question, has been here six weeks. Gator assumes that since he is, after all, Gator, that Shark would want to go back and review all 18,000 of Gator's posts from the last five years or so. After all, that's what anyone of the rest of us would do.

Shark really hasn't experienced ad naseum until he has at least thought about doing just that.
