The Hurricanes recently learned that they will begin the season ranked 13th in both major polls, a spot that seems just about right for a rising team that played so poorly the last time it took the field in the Champs Sports Bowl.

Miami might have the toughest schedule in the country, and if the team can win 9 or 10 games and finish somewhere around the Top 10, many would consider that a very successful season.

But is that enough to pacify a Canes Nation that is starved to win an ACC Title, get back into the BCS and contend for national titles again?

Time will tell. On every radio show around the country or television show that I have appeared on in the last month, I have been asked if Randy Shannon is on the hot seat. I tell everyone that the University of Miami didn't just extend Shannon for four years because it plans on such a stringent evaluation after 2010.

But Shannon will also be the first to tell you that it is time to win in 2010 and 2011. This is a team built for these two seasons.

Will it be a recipe for euphoria or will it be a trap?

Are the 2010 Hurricanes similar to the 2000 Hurricanes? Or are there still just enough holes to keep the team from prevailing in those three or four games a year that go down to the wire, the ones that separate the true champions from the pretenders?

Here is my training camp team analysis culled from conversations with a multitude of sources and personal observations and thoughts:

The 2009 ACC title game was just airing on ESPNU Clemson v Georgia Tech...It was not the U representing it's coastal division, Georgia Tech, that's right Georgia Tech son. Trying winning the conference just ONCE before spouting off about how you're back.

So you like Lou Holtz?

Personally I got nothing against Holtz. However, it would be great if Mark May brought in a 2x4 and smack Lou Holtz back to the Stone Age. Holtz would be out from the ESPN crew and I'm sure Mark May would be fired. That's just my wishful thinking.
