Miami (FL) Hurricanes (1926-2003)

Miami Herald doesn't even have the fact that the NCAA was in town on their site, let alone pretty major breaking news about Da U.

Sometimes when you don't want to know something, you're probably not going to investigate it.

Yahoo! Sports investigates these days (and breaks some stories). The local paper got the Penn State story going.

Yet, ESPN pays Terrelle Pryor's ex-roommate for interviews that lead nowhere and Sports Illustrated are printing cover stories on rigged raffles in the 80's.

I am guilty of schadenfreude regarding today's Yahoo story.

I don't know what will happen to PSU, and their situation is clearly in a different galaxy, but it seems to me that Miami should be looking at USC-type punishment at a minimum. There was a rumor that they were considering a second year of a self-imposed bowl ban, but they're probably looking at sanctions greater than that if Golden is determined to be guilty of recruiting violations and ethical breaches. It may take another year or two before it all shakes out and the penalties are imposed.

Whether Al Golden and Donna Shalala survive this will be interesting.

"I'm going to be guilty of recruiting violations and ethical breaches, God dammit, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!"

"He's just the type of person when you get around him, you feel comfortable with him," Lane said of Allen. "He did a lot of little stuff for us. Sometimes he'd give us like a pair of gloves that maybe a University of Miami player used. Like, say Lamar Miller or something."
This one is not passing the early smell test...I've watched hundreds of potential recruits leaving stadiums with gloves, ankle braces, cleats, etc. The players get new everything whenever they want it...so it is now a violation when a starstruck HS kid picks up the trash?

This seems like some no-name, shoulda maybe-been trying to get his 15.

They actually invented it. Just like Paterno, all the good they did is forgotten because the media only focuses on the one small lapse in judgement they had and we are, of course, mostly brainless sheep who believe anything the media tells us.
