Or the fact that they went 5-7 themselves in 2007.

If you lose a fight to a midget, you become one.

This may belong in the Miami game thread. But if you are selling a UConn edge based on motivation (and I tend to buy that particular elixir at the college level) let us remember that there has been a Buckeye helmet in the Miami locker room for six and a half years.

I agree that the discussion on Miami's motivation belongs here. For the record, it's been seven and a half years.

7 1/2 years ago Miami's 5th year seniors (of which there are zero on the 2-deep) were freshmen in high-school. Everyone else was in middle or elementary.

As much as people have been talking about it to them, you have to wonder how motivated they are by something that happened 40% of their life in the past. I doubt that either team gets much motivation from the event itself... only the talking that's been done for the past 75% of a decade.

And which team is more likely to be motivated by that talking? As for the Buckeyes, they've been hearing how the Buckeyes of 2002 didn't deserve that crystal football in the trophy case; and it's a drum-beat they've been hearing for 40% of their lives. One could make just as good a case that the Buckeyes are the ones who feel slighted and are the ones who want to prove to the world who the better program is.

Either way, my expectation is that the match-up of the Miami OL and the Buckeye DL is going to have more to do with the outcome of this game than any difference in motivation. ...just like last time

Exactly! JT HAS to be playing the "Let's settle this debate once and for all" card. The only thing that worries me is that Coker has to be telling all of his players the same damn thing! He feels cheated out of a NC ring and this is his chance for redemption!!!!

Wait, Coker's gone? Oh crap, nevermind.

Miami's Franklin welcoming pressure of left tackle

CORAL GABLES, Fla.(AP) -- At 6-foot-7 and 310 pounds, Miami left tackle Orlando Franklin cannot be considered tiny.

Except by his own standards.

The last time Franklin was this small, relatively speaking, was four years ago in high school. He dropped more than 20 pounds this offseason alone and is 35 pounds less than his collegiate peak, which leads to a somewhat ironic twist: The Hurricanes' season largely rests on his slimmed-down shoulders.

Aside from a brief stint as an injury fill-in last season, Franklin has the marquee spot on Miami's offensive line for the first time. After playing guard almost exclusively for the first three seasons of his college career, Franklin is the left tackle, making him Jacory Harris' primary protector and one of the biggest keys to Miami's success.

"I put a lot of pressure on myself," Franklin said. "I've got to step up. I've been here the longest. I've got the most snaps. I've got to do whatever I can to get better, show these other young guys. ... I've just been working, try to be working hard at it, showing these younger guys how to do it, you know. Every day, I'm just trying to get better."

College football's must-see games for 2010 season - ESPN
Tune in for these 20 games

3. Miami at Ohio State, Sept. 11
This game is symbolic of so much -- the last time they met, Ohio State hung on to win the national title in a huge upset. That was the Buckeyes' last victory in the title game. For the Hurricanes, that game was the beginning of a downward slide. Now, with Miami on the verge of being completely back, they meet again with Ohio State as the favorite.

Miami Hurricanes receiver LaRon Byrd out with leg injury

University of Miami's deep corps of receivers just got a bit thinner.
LaRon Byrd missed Monday morning's practice session and will not practice in the Monday afternoon session of the Hurricanes' second two-a-day format.
Also missing since last Wednesday's scrimmage: freshman receiver Allen Hurns, who hurt his right hamstring.
Sophomore receiver Davon Johnson also is ailing. He was on crutches on the sideline the first day of fall camp, his right leg bandaged to the knee.
Insidetheu.com reported that Byrd was using crutches and seen around campus Monday with a brace on his left leg. He was expected to undergo an MRI on Monday.
When a reporter asked Hurricanes coach Randy Shannon about the absence of Byrd Monday morning, Shannon would not specify why he wasn't there.
``He's doing fine,'' Shannon said. ``I told you guys the other day some guys are nicked -- we're going to sit them out.'' Is it serious?
``You want it to be serious, though, huh?'' Shannon said. ``You go around that corner, you're going to see about five guys riding [exercise] bikes; they didn't practice today.
``You guys try hard. I'm not mad. I'm just joking around with you.''
Reporter: ``So LaRon will be back in the afternoon?''
Shannon: ``Nope.''
In 2009, Byrd was second on the team with 33 receptions and third with 460 receiving yards. He had one touchdown.

"Completely back"? Shouldn't they do better than lose four games or maybe win a bowl game before this kind of proclimation? I know e!spn is starving for them to be "back", but come on...

Definitely a stretch, but at least they refrained from commenting on "the call" during the 2002 NC. Surprised the life out of me.
