Ohio State's Jon Diebler, left, puts up a layup against fellow freshman Kosta Koufos. Koufos had 15 points, Diebler 13.

The question after 30 minutes of scrimmaging against one another was whether the defense caused the Ohio State men's basketball team to shoot so poorly or the poor shooting made the defense look better than it was.
"You thought we played defense?" coach Thad Matta said. "I didn't think we played any.
"That's one of the big things, for our guys to understand the intensity. We didn't communicate. The only guys talking were the coaches. Great defensive teams are always communicating."

2007 Team Preview from Athlon Sports....

Memories of Greg Oden swatting shots, Mike Conley Jr. knifing through traffic and Ron Lewis draining backbreaking jumpers in the NCAA Tournament are now just that ? memories. Now, Ohio State head coach Thad Matta is going to have to develop a new core of players if he is to return the Buckeyes to the NCAA Tournament.
When the OCC ? freshmen Oden, Conley and Daequan Cook ? elected to join Lewis and Ivan Harris in departing, the roster from last season?s 35?4 squad that reached the NCAA final was seriously depleted, and the questions regarding the 2007-08 season doubled.
?It does (leave a hole) in some regards, but it?s part of the process of recruiting these days, and we?re still so young in what we?re building here that I think that it?s a situation where we?ve got to handle it and continue to build,? Matta says.

I find myself anticipating this coming season. Is there some way we can start sooner? :wink2:. The new players ,Koufas, Deibler, and the others should bring us to a new level of excitement about the Buckeyes this year. I can hardly wait until the first SLAM dunk. Oh My!.
And I want to see how the returning players have progressed. It would please me if we could get back to the NC game.
Lets play some HOOPS!

Season Preview from them
Ohio State will not quite be the same this year, but overreacting to the departure of Greg Oden is a popular pastime in Big Ten country. Sure this is an even younger team than last year and the incoming class cannot compare to last year (but when can it), but the Buckeyes will not fall off the face of the earth. Coach Thad Matta will have his troops ready to go and Ohio State will be near the top of the conference and back in the tournament. They just will not stick around as long as they did last year.

Just curious how this team is younger...Butler, Twig, Hunter as seniors...Last year we had 2 with Lewis and Harris...

We will have 2 frosh in the starting lineup, like last season, and we have Lighty and Madsen as Sophmores...

We have 5 frosh instead of 4 like we had last year, but still Hunter was a newcomer...We have more guys that have actually played together this year with Twig, Madsen, Butler, Hunter, Lighy compared to last year, when the list was Lewis, Harris, Butler, Twig...

Overall it wasnt a bad article, but to say we are younger this year, is an obvious false statement, with just 20 seconds of homework...

OSU men's basketball: Premium tickets tied to not-so-hot games

Saturday, October 27, 2007 3:52 AM
By Bob Baptist

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

If you were hoping to score a single ticket to the Ohio State men's basketball game against North Carolina, you'll have to buy four. But only one of them will get you into Value City Arena to see the Tar Heels.
In a move to increase attendance at four of the less-attractive nonconference home games on this season's schedule, Ohio State is tying them into ticket packages with four of the most attractive games. The packages, which begin at $60 apiece, go on sale Monday.

Ohio State men's basketball team picked to finish third in Big Ten

Monday, October 29, 2007 Steve Silver

Special to The Plain Dealer
Chicago- Ohio State men's basketball coach Thad Matta might have lost three starters in the first round of the NBA Draft. He might have undergone two intensive back surgeries to repair disk problems that led to a dropped right foot this summer. And he might now have to create a starting lineup from the most inexperienced roster he has ever coached.
Yet Matta remained one of the most jovial coaches in the grand ballroom of the Chicago Marriott O'Hare Airport Hotel during the Big Ten Media Day on Sunday.

OSU men's basketball: New look, same respect
Buckeyes picked third in Big Ten
Monday, October 29, 2007 3:33 AM
By Bob Baptist

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CHICAGO -- Jamar Butler and David Lighty thought they would be able to play the no-respect card this season. With the Ohio State men's basketball team having lost four starters and returning only four regulars from the team that reached the NCAA championship game last season, Butler thought the Buckeyes would be picked to finish in the bottom half of the Big Ten.

Third was where I put the Bucks , right behind MSU and Ind. And that on the strentgh of the incoming class and it's progression.
MSU
IND
OSU
WISC
PUR
ILL
IOWA
MICH
NW
MINN
PS

Wisc , Pur and Ill are rebuilding , more or less as we are and the bottom dwellers are who they are. Some teams have new(er) coaches and have lost their stars. It' will take a few weeks to stir the pot before the conference gets settled.
