hmmmm...if memory serves me...
* a 'no call' on hold on AJ Hawk - shown on replay as well
* the one 'pass' that went out of bounds yet was clearly a lateral and a loss...
* second pass interference in the end zone was extremely questionable
* the play that was snapped after the clock expired (shown on the screen)

must the receiver be forced out of bounds by physical contact only in order for the receiver to remain eligible, or can the receiver remain eligible after having been forced out of bounds without physical contact, that is, the defender is clearly in the way and the best route past him is achieved by going out of bounds?

The impression I get is that it has to be physical contact... and it appeared to me that there was, indeed some contact on the route... I'll have to look at it again to be certain, though.

The rule says:

No eligible receiver who goes out of bounds during a down shall touch a legal forward pass in the field of play or end zones or while airborne until it has been touched by an opponent or official.

Exception: This does not apply to an eligible offensive player who attempts to return inbounds immediately after being blocked out of bounds by an opponent.

It sounds like there is some discretion on the ref's part as to what defines "blocked," but on the highlights it looks like there was physical contact.

To the surprise of no one: http://mb7.scout.com/fwolverineinsiderfrm26 My favorite is them whining about the non-call on Gonzalez when the scUMmer forced him out and he came back in to make the big catch. They got every fucking call, the most homer refereeing I have ever seen. 25-21 Go Bucks!

The force-out rule came in during the 2002 season. If you recall in 2002, Brandon Lloyd went out of bounds and came back in to catch a crucial pass that sustained an Illinois drive in the 4th qtr. The field judge was right on that play. Amazingly, Lllloyd watched the replay on the big screen and he did not throw his usual tantrum because he knew the call was corrrect.

This is the best one though, its from a scUM fan that is giving up on the football team:

"That is it. I have officially had it with Michigan football. Four games that they should have won and they blew all four.

Worst coaches ever at any level of football...Carr, Hermann, Malone should all be fired immediately. They have dragged a once great program down into mediocrity. Even Bump Elliott probably did more with the talent he had.

No more for me. I will not waste another dollar on this team, and will not watch any more of their games. I have better things to do with my time and money.

I could care less which second rate, loser bowl game they end up going to. In my opinion they do not deserve to go to any bowl game but there are so many rinky dink ones these days that they will end up going to one. It will be totally meaningless as far as I am concerned. Who cares if they beat another mediocre team in a mediocre bowl?

I will continue to support other Michigan sports, but I am finished with the football team. They no longer seem to care, so why should I?"

I guess he was disappointed a little, right? :slappy:

I appreciate that raw emotion will make you think the officiating that we saw yesterday was the worst ever, but in the clear light of day (ok, sun's almost up) do you still think it was the worst.

Think back to the Penn State game. Don't think of the game as a whole, just think of how egregiously the Nittany Kittens held all game long, and how it was called one freakin' time IIRC. That one aspect of that game is enough to make it the worst ever.

The ref threw his hat early to indicate what happened, there was no review as to the "situation", and the crybabies lost,as you stated, 25-21. There is no crying in football.

And there's nothing for them to really bitch about with that call. IF you get forced out of bounds, you can come back in. Gonzo got bumped out of bounds... there's no debating that. The ref saw it, got it right, and hence 25-21, 9-2, 4-1, BCS Bowl Bound.... anything else I'm leaving out?

We hated Michigan fans for being arrogant bastards while Cooper was here. I'm having trouble finding it within myself to act the way they did for 13 years.

I feel their pain. But after years of hearing that we weren't their biggest rival and blah...blah...blah...., we all know that was horseshit and they never believed it themselves.

Game on, TSUN.

The criticism of Carr is ridiculous. They should be thankful that they were able to remain close in this game, and have a 9 point lead in the 4th quarter. OSU continually shot itself in the foot for two quarters, and basically handed scUM the lead,IMO. This game should not have been decided by only 4 points-up until the 4th quarter, it reminded me of a typical Cooper game-superior talent, but the guys are playing tight and making idiotic mistakes-fumbles, bad punt, etc. Carr did very well for having zilch for a running game. As for the complaints about playing a soft zone in the 4th qtr-well, I don't like to see the Buckeyes do that either, but, given Ginn/Holmes/Gonzales vs. the scUM corners-I'd probably play a zone too-look at MSU.
