Md. police officers ignore speed cameras

Buckin' A;1112507; said:
What? He asked why no one had commented on his quote. This is one of those conversations that a police officer would speed to get the fuck away from.

:slappy:

I just think if those "speed cameras" were in alot of cities, this thing would be far more prevalent.

I owe you rep when I can.

Does not compute... My english is a bit weak...

"Not everywhere" - i.e. everywhere is not, or anywhere else is not as corrupt. Again, maybe your superior english skills are just whizzing over my head.

I don't need to live there, or anywhere else, for that matter, to know that there are no rodents masquerading as human beings.

If the point you're trying to make is that the police in your town are either corrupt or unqualified, then that's what you ought to come out and say instead of flinging childish insults and trying to back your opinion up using petty anecdotes.

If you really think this is a problem for you where you've lived, you ought to get others in that town to back your case and get things changed. Otherwise, the only thing I can surmise is that this issue is something of an emotional sore spot for you. Spewing out your anger and frustration about it, on a discussion board no less, is miscued and misdirected.

Vitriol expressed on a discussion board does nothing but inflame. It serves no other purpose. Is that your purpose and motivation in sharing your personal experiences and drawing such problematic conclusions?

Anyone coming out to support you, after your having taking this tack, only seeks to feed a fire fight. They do so solely for the sake of their own entertainment and not because your comments have struck some sensible chord with them.

I suggest you look through the thread and see who has come out in your support. Then, on that basis, you can judge whether your comments were received as being well-reasoned and worthy of debate, or whether they were taken up and used as cannon fodder.

If arousal of hostility is not the purpose of your comments, then I fail to see your point(s)... That not all people are honest? That police officers have inferior intellects? That people who cheat on exams are doomed to a life of corruption? That cronism and nepotism are most prevalent in the ranks of civil/public service?

So basically if you disagree with something..Just let it be because god knows an internet board is a place of peace and people totally agreeing with everything ever posted...However,if someone agrees with you they are correct. So why bother right? Hopefully you will never disagree with anyone on the board on any other subject or they are incorrect..I'll keep that in mind from now on..Thank you messiah.

Sure it's an "emotional sore". I neither live there or will return again. Sorry I agree to disagree. If people are getting paid to "protect and serve" aren't doing their jobs,it doesn't make them right just because they are police officers.

This coming from someone who will pick and choose parts of a paragraph to make it sound like I insult ALL police officers..The fact is some deserve it. Believe it or not, that's up to you.If you can't criticize people in the public eye, then why is there even a political section?

This guy is a pretty good guy only because he was a police officer. I suppose speeding with your lights off is ok(although highly wreckless),but what about killing your pregnant girlfriend? This happens to be a specific case in ohio as well..Irony?

When you wildly exaggerate and speak in overboard ways (like your 2nd to last post), it makes it hard to understand, and near impossible to hold a civil debate.
This coming from someone who will pick and choose parts of a paragraph to make it sound like I insult ALL police officers.
This comes back to my previous line, which is still awaiting a response:

You keep tossing out disclaimers, but lines like this are yanking away that foundation with their generalizations: "cops in general making bad choices to better themselves."
.The fact is some deserve it. Believe it or not, that's up to you.
Some deserve what? To be pre-judged based on the actions of others? I'm fully aware there are bad cops. There are plenty of good cops too. You seem quite interested in harping about the bad ones when discussing cops, while only tossing in 'not all are bad' for the other side. The only time you even mentioned a good cop was in conjunction with a department filled with bad ones.

You keep claiming a balanced viewpoint towards cops, but aren't really backing it up at all.
This guy is a pretty good guy only because he was a police officer.
What is with your obsession with individual incidents when discussing cops as a whole?

So, if I randomly search the internet for an article that praises police, does that prove my point?

FWIW, let me see if I can clarify the distinction here...

There are a lot of different ways to voice disagreement. You could have CHOSEN to make your case in a sane, reasonable, and "clean" manner. You CHOSE, instead, to voice disagreement by making ridiculous accusations and resorted to childish name-calling (rodent, idiots, etc.). You also chose, unwisely (imo), to fling your insults over the head of someone who is a well-respected and long-time member of this board, and who had shared the fact that he/she is an active-duty police officer.

If you'd like to learn how to voice disagreement with refinement and reason, I suggest you read the posts of people like methomps, or gatorubet, or any of a number of other very well-respected "non-homer" members on BP who can voice disagreements without being insulting or childish.

If you realize that this issue is an emotional sore for you (just as any sort of trauma is for anyone), then I'd suggest you proceed with restraint and caution when your hot-button issues come up on this board. In these cases it ISN'T likely that you will be able to argue from a well-reasoned and rational standpoint.

It IS likely, however, that you deepen the perceptions (correctly or not) and feed the "myth" that powerlifter is an emotionally volatile and over-aggressive provocateur.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't mean disrespect
There are a lot of good cops, who serve and protect
And they boldly put their lives on the line
To protect our rights and give us peace of mind
But for every cop who thinks his badge is a crown
This song is for you, and I'll never bow down ...

And I'm mad as hell singing fuck the po-po
