2026 MD DE Zion Elee (Verbal Offer)

TOP-40 2026 PROSPECT ZION ELEE SAYS HIS OHIO STATE OFFER IS ON A “HIGH PEDESTAL” AFTER LARRY JOHNSON OFFERED HIM WEDNESDAY

“It was great, man,” Elee told Eleven Warriors of getting an OSU offer. “He offered me because he says he sees potential in me and that I remind him of Nick Bosa from my play style. He really hopes to develop me in the future.”

One of the top defensive end prospects in the 2026 class made his first visit to Ohio State earlier this month and came away impressed with the Buckeyes.

Five-star Maryland product Zion Elee picked up an offer from Larry Johnson and Ohio State on May 8 and wanted to see the campus in person in short order. The Joppatowne (Joppa, Maryland) standout proved more than deserving of that offer after he camped at Ohio State on June 17 and flashed as one of the more impressive defensive linemen in a star-studded group.

“It felt good being in Columbus finally,” Elee said. “I think it’s a great campus and Larry Johnson is a very good coach. I was working with him the whole day and he really got me right for one-on-ones. The biggest thing I learned was probably about my get-off and balance,” Elee said. “I worked on my balance in one of the individual drills and it showed in the one-on-ones.”

While the Buckeyes are trying to put the finishing touches on their 2025 recruiting class, they’ve also started putting a big priority on 2026 prospects. Especially since coaches can now directly contact juniors in high school, as of June 15.

“I heard from coach Johnson that day and he sent me a couple graphics,” Elee said. “(The relationship) has been great, we’ve been talking more and more frequently every week and stuff like that.”

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound prospect says he hopes to return to campus for a game sometime this fall and is intrigued by what the Buckeyes have to offer. Per 247Sports’ composite rankings, Elee is the No. 22 prospect and No. 3 edge rusher in the 2025 class. He’s also picked up 23 Division I offers and Ohio State could be a bigger player in his recruitment.

“They stand really high,” Elee said describing where OSU sits with him at the moment.

Uh, am I missing something? Post #5 and #8 seem to have changed up in the race for this guy. Notably, #8 is missing the Buckeyes. Yeah, I get that recruiting is fluid and all, but what has changed? Does the Knowles/LJ rift discourage him? Maybe LJ is contemplating retirement, and it seems like Saban maybe put a fork in LJ by calling the DL antiquated? Some insider could probably do an article on this schism by ripping the band aid off. I'd bet that Day will keep Knowles, and put LJ on the shelf? Something has to give/change, we all 'know' that, but hate to see it happen. But happen it must. Anyway, the short term result of LJ retiring is that several (many?) of the DL recruits will go elsewhere, and hard to tell how many of current players will transfer out as well. PS, was impressed with the way Georgia ran their blitz, (and disguised it). Don't care how good a passer one is, if you've got two seconds to catch, and find a receiver, it's hard to get yardage. PSS, tOSU D made Gabriel a couple million dollars more last Saturday. Go Bucks!

You have to click the link and see his whole post. I thought the same, "how is OSU not on the list for a DL from MD". But OSU is just at the top right
