Other targets seem to be ahead of four-star defensive end Ernest Willor Jr. on OSU’s board right now, but that could change if he visits later this season. There doesn’t seem to be a high chance of either Dylan Stewart or Marquise Lightfoot flipping from their current commitments, but if that changes, OSU would welcome either into the fold.

Updated scouting report on Top 100 DL Ernest Willor Jr.

Brings versatility to the defensive line because he can play inside or as a 5-technique. Has quick twitch and is explosive with a good change of direction for a prospect of his size.

Has verified size and the type of body to play at 260 or add weight and mass and move inside and play at 290 pounds at the college level. Is able to win reps with power or by using technique, and he shows the ability to chase a play along the line of scrimmage.

Is quick at the snap, plays low, wins leverage battles and shows sustained effort. Is capable of mixing in moves, and understands how to quickly disengage and use a developed swim move to past an offensive lineman. Willing to use a rip move and his strength and leverage allow him to get around the blocker.

Closing speed stands out when he gets within striking distance of the ball carrier. Possesses excellent body control and quick feet, which makes it hard to get him on the ground. Physical at the point of attack and often pushes the offensive lineman back with his initial punch.

Power in lower body is evident when getting up and into a blocker. Is quick to disengage and easily re-directs along the line of scrimmage. Uses acceleration at the snap well to feign one way and get past the offensive lineman the other way.

Has to continue to develop his strength while refining his move set. Is willing to try different technique but sometimes is mechanical with it. Will have to work on move set combinations. More reps will make it more free-flowing. Continued development in ability to anchor at the point of attack against the run. Productive and disruptive player who often gets into the backfield.

Has 22 tackles, including five sacks, in the first five games of his senior season. Is a high-level prospect capable of playing early at a Top 20 program and possesses early-round NFL draft potential.

WILLOR JR. IN CONTACT WITH OSU

With three defensive linemen committed in the 2024 cycle, Ohio State would still like to take at least one and possibly two more players at that position before it gets to National Signing Day. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson has continued to do his due diligence with several uncommitted prospects, one of them being four-star Maryland defensive lineman Ernest Willor Jr.

Willor Jr. told 247Sports this week that he and Johnson speak regularly and that he is considering OSU along with Virginia Tech, Miami, Maryland and Penn State. He said he'll likely take visits to school in November and December, sometime after his senior season ends.

"Coach Johnson is an old soul type of guy," Willor told 247Sports. "Like my coaches ever since I've been younger; old souls, don't cuss, they get guys rolling without having to yell, scream or other stuff. He doesn't just say he develops defensive linemen, he shows you. Even at the next level, you can see it."

So this has been an extremely quiet recruitment but adding Willor to Houston would be a really great DE class, then add one more late bloomer/project type. Looks like PSU and Maryland would be the competition right now from what I can tell. One to keep an eye on.

DT Ernest Willor: His OV in December is likely tied to what Carlon Jones decides to do after this weekend. If Jones jumps on OSU's offer then Birm suspects Willor doesn't take the visit as OSU shouldn't need 4 DTs in this class.

ERNEST WILLOR JR. TO VISIT OSU DEC. 8

On Tuesday evening, four-star 2024 defensive tackle Carlon Jones officially announced his decommitment from Nebraska, reopening his recruitment a few weeks before National Signing Day with an official visit set for Ohio State on Dec. 8.

Jones won’t be the only defensive line prospect on that visit.

Per On3, four-star Maryland defensive lineman Ernest Willor Jr. will also be making an official visit Dec. 8-10. Willor hasn’t been to OSU since 2021, but will return to Columbus two weekends before the Dec. 20 National Signing Day.

“The proof is in the pudding with coach (Larry) Johnson,” Willor Jr. told On3. “He coaches his guys hard, he develops them and he gets them drafted. He is an old soul with great knowledge.”

The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Willor Jr. will also visit Wisconsin (Dec. 1-3) and Maryland (Dec. 15-17) before making a final decision. He’s also considering visiting Miami and Virginia Tech. Willor Jr. is considered the 112th-ranked player and the 17th-best defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle.

“I have been waiting for these official visits,” Willor told On3 of OSU, Wisconsin and Maryland. “I have been to all of the schools on my list at least once besides Wisconsin. All three schools recruit me hard, I have relationships with coaches and the visits will give me a chance to really see everything about the school.”

Expect the heat to be turned up in his recruitment since Abor entered the Portal
Even if we land Amaris Williams (and I do think that is close to a done deal), I really want Wilor in this class. Houston and Williams are more brute force guys on the edge and while they are plenty athletic, they don't have the pure pass rush ability of Wilor imo and we have been sorely lacking that at DE lately. A class of Houston, Williams and Wilor will make me forget about the guys we missed on in '24.

My worry with Wilor, and I've said it in other threads, is even if we land him, will his coach use him properly

ERNEST WILLOR JR.

Before Scott’s decommitment, Willor was already scheduled to visit Columbus on Dec. 8, the same weekend Jones is taking his trip to OSU. Silver linings are few and far between to find from the decommitment of Scott, but if there is one, the tenor of that trip will be much different for each prospect, with the Buckeyes now having a spot available for both players instead of just one. Willor hasn’t visited OSU since 2021, but the Buckeyes are very much still in the running for the Maryland prospect.
