McKinley - Colerain State Title Game

I was tld the something like 9 of the 11 of the starting D had scolies to D1 schools. Is this correct?
I watched the game on ONN last night due to the huge Canton crowd. The announcer made the comment that only Mister Simpson had accepted a scholarship thus far. This morning's ABJ stated the QB Goodman had accepted a BB scholarship to Finlay so there went the ONN story.

The player I found intriguing was Tyrell Byrd. Reminded me of an African American version of Jim Stillwagon. He is very quick (5'11" 285) and could not be blocked. Could cause a big slow OL fits. Anyone know anything about the kid.

This Colerain team is right up there as an all-time great Ohio High Schoolfootball team. I would include the 1997 National Champ Mckinley team along with the national champ St. Iggy teams. The best team that I ever watched would have to be the 1982 Moeller Machine, led by the Francisco brothers. They were unstoppable and even Spielman and his tough Massillon team could not keep it close in the state title game.

The thing I really like about this Colerain team is they pounded you on the ground. I think they won one of their playoff games without throwing a single pass. Teams would put 8 and 9 men up front to slow down their run. Everyone knew what was coming and defenses couldn't slow it down.

Colerain

Other than this year,if Colerain was in the GCL, it would have atleast two losses a year.. If the state title game was played any where near the middle of the state, i,e, columbus, the upper north teams would have a whole lot less state titles... Look what happens when St Ignatius, Massilon, and Mo Claret's team come to cincy; they lose. Elder held him(Maurice) to 48 yards rushing his senior year at the Pit(Elder's home field).. I played football for LaSalle highschool (biggest rivarly is ST X) and they beat COlerain in the second half this year. Colerain left their starters in and lost seven to nothing in the second half but still won 35-7.They had a very impressive team this year but there are atleast 4 schools (Elder, Moeller, St X, and LaSalle) that are better than Mckinley. The GCL schools beat each other up during the regular season and then again in the playoffs. Sound familiar? Just like the Big Ten..

I agree with that.. They've had some strong teams.. Who ever wins the state title always deserves it. Colerain had a better team on paper than elder last year and if they didn't miss a field goal then they would've repeated as state champions this year.. St ed's had a great team this year too and beat St X but I do not know what happened to them in the playoffs. I am only saying that there are enough good teams in CIncy that if they would dominate if they were in other areas such as Dayton and Columbus.. No one wants to play Elder and Moeller, St X and even Lasalle. They have to go out of town to schedule games. A couple of years ago Elder had one less game because they could not find an opponent...
