I think we are doing just the opposite...bringing up the fact that his times are so impressive for his size is hardly underestimating his athletic ability. What I think is questionable is the same thing I have read scouts question about him...his toughness and strength. It doesn't really matter how many rebounds he had in college...that doesn't help him shed an NFL OLB when he is trying to get off the line of scrimmage.jimotis4heisman said:even so, i think you folks still maybe underestimating his athletic ability. in 03-04 he was the second leading rebounder for the hogs and a finalist for mcdonalds all american in basketball.
Yeah - but if LLoydSev is on the money then the Woody Hayes gig MoC wants to now fill is one day before tOSU's Pro Day. Hence Friend(less) looks like a goof for not conducting an adequate fact check in the first place.tsteele316 said:a thought just occurred to me regarding mo-mo and osu's pro-day. espn already has this entire scenario plotted out, regardless of whether or not osu lets clarett participate.
herein lies the beauty of espn and tommy-boy in this situation.
osu doesnt let him in to the pro-day. espn writes an article professing how osu is blacklisting clarett and trying to ruin his nfl chances out of spite because he blew the whistle on them.
osu does let him participate in pro-day. now osu is catering to clarett in attempt to pacify him and keep him from further damaging the program with all the "dirty laundry" he has on everybody.
espn has already made this a no-lose situation for themselves.
i think they had to use new balls for the senior bowl as well. i have no confirmation on that. just a judgement based on performance. everyone of nuge's kick offs landed at or within 3 yrds of the 5. the other guy was having trouble making it to the 10. i think nuge's character keeps him from getting rattled by the setback of the new ball and he is back to his touchback ways inside of a year into the pros. i also think that within a year he'll consider 50 and under in his "comfort zone" again.Alan said:For those questioning the Nugent kick performance......
the NCAA lets kickers use "old" and "soft" balls exclusively for kicking.....these used footballs travel much, much better than the NFL balls....
the NFL makes kickers use brand new (much harder) footballs for all kicks....that's why Nugent's kicks are not going as far.....his leg strength is still there, its just that the balls dont travel as far....
he will adjust and be just fine....
NightmaresDad said:ken Gordon article: "Nugent will have to be good. Last year, NFL kickers connected on 81.1 percent of their field-goal tries, including 58.2 percent from 50 yards or longer"
Why didn't he then post the Nuge's stats right after this? 8/9 career from >50 yards...about 30% higher than the NFL average!
theres also the new handler thing to consider as well. but then, being impartial in reporting doesn't sell papers so why would he report the full and unbiased trueth? better to put forth a half assed article that will cause sensationalism. takes half the effort and you make more money.MililaniBuckeye said:Or the fact that he's been far more accurate than the NFL average during the three full seasons he started?
2002: 25-28 (89.3%)
2003: 16-19 (84.2%)
2004: 24-27 (88.9%)
Total: 65-74 (87.8%)
Note only that, but he was 36-39 (92.3%) inside the 40 during those three years. Also keep in mind that the hashes are wider in college than they are in the pros, so he had to kick quite a few kicks from wider angles than he would've in the pros. Nugent will be laser accurate in the NFL.
