The "Matty Ice" crap was bordering on Ryan "Big Tex" Mallett levels of annoying. Nothing worse than an announce crew trying to get a nickname to stick.

Probably a little far-fetched on my part, but I was watching it with my brother at the time, and while I was thinking it, my brother said, "Geez, I wonder what kind of beer he and his friends drank in high school."
Yes, the other obvious explanation is that he has "ice running through his veins" and all those cliches, but I like beer an awful lot so I'm sticking with my theory. Maybe if Ryan loses a lot of weight they can call him "Matty Light."
Edit: In the time it took me to type this, I'm glad to see that some of you are on the same page as me.

I'm pretty sure the "Ice" part comes from being cool under pressure. Matt Ryan would never touch a drop of alcohol and prefers studying game film and quiet evenings at home with his girlfriend.
He (like Dorthy Mantooth) is a saint!
