Maryland at tOSU, Sat. 10/7, 12pm ET, FOX

So about that "fake punt"....being a long snapper is a lot like being a relief pitcher in baseball. No one really cares who you are until you give up a bomb in the 8th or, in this case, snap the ball point-down directly into the turf.

It's a good thing Simon reacted and caught it or it might have been an even bigger disaster.

Even though they were 5-0, they were still MARYLAND! Or at least that's how I perceive the players saw it. Coming off of two weeks of practice, time to heal up and work out some kinks, I, too, expected tOSU to give them a thrashing. Well, didn't happen. Starting to believe that the special teams coach should be excused or demoted, and maybe thinking Frye has overreached here. Knowles D is showing out, which is very good, and others and RB07 have already noted. If Md sacked Kyle thrice, what are PSU and TTUN going to do? Our guards seem to be protecting Hinzman at C, and yeah, the tackles are struggling. Hopefully we'll see Montgomery etc in the upcoming Purdue game. Maybe that will scare the starters, or encourage them to up their games. Also see that play calling hasn't improved. Maybe it was the camera angle, but the OC wasn't to be seen. Maybe in press box? Can't really learn the trade if you're not calling the plays or consulting with the HC/O playcaller. Day has elevated his intensity level, but cannot fathom what/why he is doing what he's doing. If he's trying to scare PS or TTUN with a fake punt, well, it's not working. Do believe in Kyle, and he needs to get seasoned. But he can/does distribute the ball pretty well. Go Bucks!
A lot to address there, but just a few things on my end. Maryland is a very good team, our fans are dismissive of that fact but me (an entire optimist that thinks OSU shits gold) said they would challenge us and they did. Whether that's because Maryland is good or because we're bad remains to be seen.

On the second point, Kyle will have his eulogy read if the OL plays like that against PSU or ttun. Same goes for any RB we put in there, actually moreso with how bad the run blocking has been. But that said, Kyle can't play that way again in a big game. He was absolutely awful yesterday for 80% or more of the snaps, first time that's happened but it can't happen again. Kyle will be fine though, agree on that completely.

Final point is OL...Montgomery needs put in at LT, or Fryar to LT and Montgomery to RT. The Simmons experiment is over imo and the Stud failures at OT recruiting have come home to roost. Not fun to admit but it's reality. And Montgomery is honestly a stud and I have a strong suspicion he has a Buckeye tree planted when he leaves, so why not give the Ohio kid his shot when the California transplant isn't getting the job done? I know the middle of the season is tough to replace a LT, but if your transfer portal LT is going to get your QB killed, then it's time to make a change.

Edit: Were the refs high, or just actively trying to help Maryland? Dear lord that was awful.

Parker Fleming has asked for a greater salary increase to get this addressed.

When a ref is so biased that he is called out on national TV, then I believe a formal complaint should be filed. It looked like three blatant attempts to hurt the Buckeyes.
Agreed, a formal complaint should be filed. One atrocious call can be excused, but when it repeatedly happens and is so obviously biased then it needs investigated. Luckily we overcame it all on our own.

So putting a kid who struggled at right tackle at SDSU, in to play LT at a place like OSU isn't going that well huh?

Who could have possibly seen that coming?

I tried to be optimistic about it heading into the season but at the end of the day, the proof is in the pudding and we have enough games and film to show the OL is a straight-up disaster. We went from a Rolls Royce at OT with PJ/Dawand to a Ford Fiesta with this current group. The interior should be good with Jackson, Hinzman and Jones, but that isn't working either. If Frye doesn't fix it quickly, he is likely going to be looking for a new job.
