Positives
1. CJ Stroud- like it was mentioned he was slightly behind on some throws but imo this game was more impressive than Rutgers. His throw up the seam to JSN on 3rd down and his two TD throws on 4th down were insane. He made his most difficult throws yet I thought and other than his Olave miss his ability to make tough throws look routine is something else. Glad he's got an extra week now to rest but to be honest I wish we could play Indiana next week and then get a bye.
2. Pick your poison. Clearly Maryland was set on stopping Henderson who still went over 6 yards a carry. The only problem for defenses is that OSU can attack teams in many different ways. Take away the run? OK, we'll throw for over 400. Drop 8 like Tulsa did? OK, we'll rush for over 300. Kudos once again to the staff for circling back to the running game once we lightened up the box.
3. Defensive line finally took over a game. To Marylands defense they had to throw the ball to keep up and our defense knew this. 5 sacks though is a great number against a team that doesn't give up sacks. For comparison Iowa the best defense ever invented according to many got zero sacks the week prior.
4. Secondary really is going to be special very soon. Held Maryland to 279 yards throwing in a game where they had to throw the ball a ton. Burke and Banks did great I also though Ransom played a nice game too. It'd sure be interesting to see Craig Young start along with Hickman.
5. These WRs. Just incredible and nothing more needs to be said. I wish we rolled a bit more but then again if a team has two players like we have in Olave and Wilson I dont blame them for a shorter rotation.
Improvement
1. Not much to be honest but even with the great defensive play yesterday we could've put an exclamation point had we tackled better on their last TD and had we held them to 3 on their first TD.
2. Still have some issues getting off the field on 3rd down. For sure improved though!
3. I know many pundits like the Maryland front 7 but I thought the OL play could've been cleaner. CJ made a lot of throws with guys in his face and obviously Henderson wasn't given a ton of space either. They did pretty good though.
Overall another insane performance and IMO we aren't even playing our best ball yet. The defense clearly has room to grow with as many new faces and the offense with CJ can only improve as he gains experience too. Can't wait to see what we do with PED because I believe it's going to be tough for anyone to stop this offense.
