Mark Pantoni (Assistant Athletic Director, Player Personnel)

Am I wrong in assuming that this is Pantoni's right hand person? Thought I read that this is the person that handles all the details of these visits that make the recruits feel at home. If so, this is a tremendous loss to the recruiting program. Doing the research on these recruits, and their folks, makes these visits very intimate, and is an indication of the care and feeding of the recruiters to utilize during the visit. Or maybe I'm overthinking this one? If I'm close to being correct, she'll be very hard to replace. PS, read her new title, and while it's a winner, am not so certain, given the reporting structure to the Xichigan hierarchy. She will have a great title, but seems to be reporting to someone lesser than she does at tOSU.

While there is discussion about this going on elsewhere, this seems to be the right place to discuss the qualifications for the replacement

Based on your post @calibuck , it seems the replacement needs to be diligent and willing to work hard. Apart from that, good people skills and common sense seem to be all that is required. While that rules me out, I’m not seeing anything there that sounds particularly difficult to replace.

In the other thread it has been suggested that part of the value of the person who departed is that some recruits had a certain… what was the word…”affinity” for her. It seems to me that it shouldn’t be too hard to find someone with the right titles and assets.

DaddyBB, understand your concern about the 'likeability' of the person, it certainly is key. Being pleasant skills are becoming more important (and I too, have to rule myself out on this basis alone), having a pleasant visage and smile could also be key. My concerns are that all the details of the recruits trip, accommodations, food, transportation, meeting times & rooms, making sure the 'minders' are there, at the proper place and time, and probably dozens of other details of which I am ignorant, are what make this position a success. Pantoni is most certainly the face of recruiting at tOSU, but this person (as I believe), gives these visits the Wow factor that shows them that the red carpet has been spread down before them. Heck, have seen people say 'no', simply because the soda offered them was the wrong brand. Yeah, I can see that I'm overthinking this a tad, but it's this level of detail that sets Ohio State apart from the rest. Pantoni, Day, etc are tasked with knowing about the recruit, the family, likes dislikes, etc and showing game film, along with the 'this is how we see you in our system' talks, which might be ruined if the recruits/families are offered pigs in a blanket...All I'm saying, if what I opine is a quarter true, then this is the reason Erin was offered Director of Operations at Xichigan, as she has been well-trained at tOSU. Go Bucks!
