Andrews gets Ohio State offer
Never a dull moment this spring at Scottsdale Desert Mountain, as Ohio State football coaches swept through today to watch 2014s Kyle Allen throw to Mark Andrews.
Ohio State quickly offered the 6-foot-6, 225-pound Andrews, but told Desert Mountain coach Tony Tabor they would have to wait for the big guy -- head coach Urban Meyer -- to see Allen in person before they can offer him.
"I tell you what, Kyle is right there with Mark," Tabor said. "The head guy has to call the shot on the quarterback a lot of times. Kyle is going to Ohio State's camp this summer. Once he walks on campus, they're going to offer him."
Andrews is up to seven offers (Ohio State, Nebraska, Michigan, UCLA, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona) and Allen has four (Boise State, Oklahoma State, UCLA, North Carolina).
Andrews said his recruiting has picked up based on his sophomore football film and college coaches coming to Desert Mountain to see him in spring workouts. The Ohio State offer, he says, is huge.
"I'm definitely interested in them," Andrews said.
Andrews is devoting much of his time to getting stronger and faster for football. He said he throws every week with Allen.
Tabor said he is pleased with both players for staying grounded through the recruiting craze that has never hit Desert Mountain this big before.
"I feel blessed to get those two good kids," Tabor said. "They're such good kids. Coaches comment about how respectful they are. They're good students. They're good for the team. They realize if they don't have those big boys up front blocking for them, they wouldn't get any of this."
Andrews said he is surprised by all of the early interest from major colleges.
"It's a new thing for me," he said. "I'm taking it as it comes. I'm working on getting stronger and faster and gettinbg the mental part of the game down."
