Andrews gets Ohio State offer

Never a dull moment this spring at Scottsdale Desert Mountain, as Ohio State football coaches swept through today to watch 2014s Kyle Allen throw to Mark Andrews.

Ohio State quickly offered the 6-foot-6, 225-pound Andrews, but told Desert Mountain coach Tony Tabor they would have to wait for the big guy -- head coach Urban Meyer -- to see Allen in person before they can offer him.

"I tell you what, Kyle is right there with Mark," Tabor said. "The head guy has to call the shot on the quarterback a lot of times. Kyle is going to Ohio State's camp this summer. Once he walks on campus, they're going to offer him."

Andrews is up to seven offers (Ohio State, Nebraska, Michigan, UCLA, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona) and Allen has four (Boise State, Oklahoma State, UCLA, North Carolina).

Andrews said his recruiting has picked up based on his sophomore football film and college coaches coming to Desert Mountain to see him in spring workouts. The Ohio State offer, he says, is huge.

"I'm definitely interested in them," Andrews said.

Andrews is devoting much of his time to getting stronger and faster for football. He said he throws every week with Allen.

Tabor said he is pleased with both players for staying grounded through the recruiting craze that has never hit Desert Mountain this big before.

"I feel blessed to get those two good kids," Tabor said. "They're such good kids. Coaches comment about how respectful they are. They're good students. They're good for the team. They realize if they don't have those big boys up front blocking for them, they wouldn't get any of this."

Andrews said he is surprised by all of the early interest from major colleges.

"It's a new thing for me," he said. "I'm taking it as it comes. I'm working on getting stronger and faster and gettinbg the mental part of the game down."

Hopefully Mark gets a good look at how Stoney is being used...I would imagine that is almost exactly how we would use him here, they have a very similar skill set and frame.

Herman Targeting Monster Weapon for 2014
By Michael Chung

Standing 6-6 and 225 pounds, Mark Andrews is a highly sought-after TE/WR in the Aaron Hernandez/Jake Stoneburner mold.

The junior out of Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, already has many offers from top schools around the country, including Arizona and Arizona State along with Boise State, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma and UCLA.

The Buckeyes have already offered him for the class of 2014, and Urban Meyer would love to steal this desert beast Northeast to Columbus. His teammate, Kyle Allen , is also a top prospect the Buckeyes are looking at for next year?s class.

Unlike Andrews, Allen doesn?t have an Ohio State offer yet, but the 6-2 quarterback does have offers from Arizona, ASU, UNC, Oklahoma State and UCLA. Could this be a two-for-one deal? Does he want to leave the desert or is he hoping to stay out West?

We recently caught up with Andrews to see where his recruitment stands.

Ozone: Living in Arizona, is Ohio State even on the radar of high school football players?

Kind of forgot about this kid with the likes of kitt, snodgrass, lattimore, etc
Definitely shouldnt sleep on this kid. Big dude with some speed. Mismatch nightmare, could honestly play wr, but he just seems like an ideal TE that all the elite nfl teams have, in the mold of hernandez, antonio gates and jimmy graham.

Though Rivals100 wide receiver Mark Andrews of Scottsdale (Ariz.) Desert Mountain admits to growing up an Oklahoma fan he'd not been to Norman since the Sooners offered him last summer in spite of numerous attempts to do so. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound prospect arrived in Norman on Friday not only to take part in Oklahoma's junior day/start of spring practice but to also see his brother.
