Wichita State set up to possibly play Kentucky in the second round, again. Someone on the Committee hates Greg Marshall.

give me a break with this 1-seed debate between north carolina and duke. both teams play early on in north carolina. unc is in the south regional, which ultimately plays in memphis. that is about 730 miles from unc's campus. duke is in the east regional, which ultimately plays in new york. that is about 480 miles from duke's campus. furthermore, looking at whom each program may play after the round of 64, there is hardly much difference.

The B1G tied for second most conference bids with seven, but how many will get bounced in their first game? The highest seed the B1G got was a 4 (Purdue).

something interesting to note:

of the 30 (of 351) teams with the fastest tempo, only 2 teams (uk and ucla) are playing in the tournament.

of the 30 teams with the slowest tempo, 11 teams are playing in the tournament.

edit: it could be argued that low division 1 teams tend to play faster and high majors tend to play slower. that may be true. however, the tournament teams are almost evenly split per tempo, with 31 teams among the 175 fastest.

Providence managed to get a bid despite losing to the Buckeyes. They'll play USC in Dayton in the First 4.

I love how everyone is excited for the tournament this year. *crickets*
I can't remember the last time I've given less of a damn about the tournament. Even last year, when we were equally garbage, I was tuned in. Just seems like such a 'blah' year overall for college basketball.

I'm always excited for it, at least the first weekend. I was making brackets on poster board as a kid, long before it was all televised and every office worker in the country played in a bracket pool. But as the blue bloods advance my interest fades.

Jeezus, the media's wailing and gnashing of teeth over 18-14 Syracuse being left out is killing me. Isn't it enough that half of the schools in so-called power conferences get bids? It wasn't long ago that teams with 13+ losses had no shot at an at-large bid. Now we have multiple teams like that getting in, and for some it's still not enough.

Frankly, I'd rather some teams get rewarded for great seasons despite getting upset in their conference tourney than the 8th place team in a big conference who is only over .500 because they mowed down some cupcakes in December.
