NBC News (7/8, Henry) reports on a study conducted by members of the UC Hastings College of the Law which found that “approximately half of Black and Latina women in the sciences say they have been mistaken for janitors and administrative staff.” The study was based on surveys from over 550 women in STEM fields. It also found that “77 percent of Blacks, 65 percent of Latinas and 64 percent of Asian Americans” said that they “felt like they had to continuously prove their competence and intelligence,” while “four-in-ten Asian American women said they felt pressured to perform a more stereotypically female role.”
