Excerpt from Plain Dealer Article:
Cooper, however, on Tuesday night appeared on WBNS-TV in Columbus and said ESPN.com misquoted him and that he was never paid for a job he did not perform.

Cooper was dismissed from OSU in the spring of 2002 following an arrest for possession of drugs and an illegal firearm.

ESPN.com said former OSU running back Sam Maldonado, who transferred to Maryland after playing sparingly in 2001, had only 17 of the 40 credits he earned at Ohio State transfer to his new school because OSU steered him into classes that would keep him eligible.

Maldonado on Tuesday issued a statement through Maryland declining comment on the Clarett story.

Ironically, Maldonado was also suspended Tuesday by Maryland.

Bruce Hooley had it in his column this morning about Maldonado. Unfortunately I can't link it from work since the site is blocked (damn government computers:) ) But you can do a quick search for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and look up his article, it was near the end of the article.
What government do you work for? I don't have any trouble.

Maybe his work uses a filter for the internet, and cleveland.com just happens to be on it? I know at school it would have been the same way, since BuckeyePlanet is not in the same respect.. however all it would take was seeing one person post and it would be filtered.. haha

I work in a Federal Building that uses the military filtering system. Fun eh? It is funny, it is hard for me to get into anything. Buckeye Planet is fine, but the OZone is totally blocked. Plain Dealer is blocked (freaking cleveland.com) but the USAToday is fine. I am blocked from about 95% of all chat forums but can only get in Buckeye Planet, Bucknuts & ESPN Sportsnation. Also, about 99% of internet radio is blocked but I can get 1460 The Fan loud and clear.

Your hard earned tax dollars being wasted away on me

what sucks is that he was trying real hard to take all those classes that Krenzel was taking (did you know he's a molecular genetics major?) but the school just wouldnt let him. he got screwed.

LeAndre Boone called 1460 The Fan last night.

He basically confirmed what Marco Cooper said about Friend telling him the story was about Boone, and never mentioned Clarett.

He also said that he told friend that JT was instrumental in getting him on the dean's list, and jt is clean. i believe he said "Tressel won't even consider crossing the street unless the flashing light says walk."

He also says osu has compliance spies everywhere that know what is going on, so if anything improper was going on, the ncaa would have known.

That's 3 out of 5 now that have said the exact same thing. Keep it up ESPN.

god ESPN is starting to look like a bunch of morons. which is kind of worrisome, because the big wigs at ESPN are going to get tired of looking like a high school paper. when that happens, they might just pull anything to make their story more believable.

The Plain Dealer is now retracing their report that Moldanado was suspended:

The Plain Dealer incorrectly reported Tuesday that Maldonado had been suspended at Maryland. He has not been suspended. That erroneous information, supplied by another news organization, was published due to reporter error.

reporter error - wow, who'd a thunk it.

Running a story without fact checking just because someone else did. Funny, I just slammed journalists as a whole for that very practice just a few days ago.

Do something stupid in the NFL or NBA, and you get slapped with a fine. Some sort of governing body should be sticking their boot up the loose asses of reporters who run with unchecked stories that turn out to be untrue.
