Made In America Christmas

Your Cousin In New Mexxico
Staying with a theme started by ABC News, I thought it would be great to put Made in America, Christmas suggestions here.

My favorite it actually Tervis Tumblers! I have them, love them and they are going as gifts for Christmas this year! You can buy them direct or at places like Amazon.com and in stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond. You can even get OSU tumblers and mugs!

All Clad Cookware.

It ain't cheap, but it's the best and will last a lifetime.

Palmer said the emphasis on quality is due in part to All-Clad’s commitment to the 230-thousand square-foot Canonsburg plant and its 300 employees. On any given day, the Canonsburg plant produces approximately 5,500 pieces of cookware.

“It’s where All-Clad was born, and where the technology began,” Palmer said. “We continue to invest in Canonsburg because there is so much knowledge. Being steelbased, it also enables us to get the best American-made steel and produce the best cookware.”

On the subject of cookware--I have a set of old school Calphalon, handed down to me from my Dad. I bet the pots/pans are at least 20 years old. Those things are so freaking heavy, my wife is always complaining about the weight. However the stuff will probably last forever and its made in Ohio.

It's nowhere near as good now. The old, made in Toledo, commercial stuff was great. Now almost everything Calphalon makes is in China and a shell of what the brand used to be. Those damned Toledoans thinking they should make more than 70 cents an hour and actually have some safety regulations and standards in the factory. Management sure showed them.

Interesting, I was unaware they stopped making the cookware in Toledo. I did notice the cost of it has dropped substantially over the years, which probably explains the made in China thing.

I just checked to see if my pots/pans had any thing on them saying Made in USA. They actually are "engraved/stamped" on the bottom of each with, Commercial Aluminum Cookware Company.

All of our Calphalon pots/pans were made in Toledo except for the non-stick griddle we got a year or two ago.

Sorry to see/hear that they moved all of their production to China.

Clarification: I was Christmas shopping last night and dropped into our local kitchen-type store and it looks like the commercial hard-anodized Calphalon cookware is still made in Toledo. :)

Oh, and for those who may question my manhood for being in a kitchen store, I bought a few bottles of locally made habenaro hot sauce as gifts.

:p
