2023 MA OL Samson Okunlola (Miami Signee)

O.gif

My Miami buddy is elated over this! That's 2 of the top 5 OTs in the class. That's a pretty big deal. But honestly, I ask: would you in this climate have 2 top 5 HS 5stars or 2 top 10 OTs from the Transfer Portal?
I think I'd personally take the experience. And that's not Sour grapes, but OL are so hard to predict that I might rather a guy who's already had success in a college program(even if it's a lower tier one)

Why not both.gif.

Young studs for depth in a few years and proven players to fill any holes today.

Seantrel Henderson’ish.

I’ve been thinking deja Vu to myself with him as well…

You both failed to work in any kind of reference to a rap career or even an overly involved father.

I award you zero points.

May Woody have mercy on your souls

At some point Miami will get better and possibly good to great. Of course it has been rare for the big 3 from Florida to be top 10 simultaneously, but it has and could happen.
The issue with Miami will be the immense turnover they have going on now. Idk how next year is much better with so many 1st year players in the program. Yes some will be former highly HS ranked players, and some were highly sought after in the Portal. But it takes time to meld together as a team. Relying on mercenaries every year is not the best method for a successful program, especially along the lines. Getting a slick WR with a 4.4 40 is great, and he'll get stats. But the lines are much harder to predict. And if I recall they had multiple former high 4 and 5stars on their lines this season as well...

Cristobal seems like a strong and good leader for that program. It will take time…..as I said……but it will happen. Miami will eventually turn it around and I believe it will be before Texas A&M gets its shit together with Goober leading it.

just like culture and cohesion will be a challenge at Miami, adapting to Transfer Portal and NIL will be a challenge for OSU. We are already off to a mixed start and we were established with pipelines of elite talent. Give NiL and the portal another year and let’s see if 5* freshman will be willing to ride the pine because some coach doesn’t think they’re ready…..meanwhile UGa, Bama, LSU bring their freshman along quickly.

Cristobal is a great recruiter, and an above average in game coach. Miami turning it around will be a complete crap shoot if their major selling point is constantly NIL. If you're main allure is money, what will keep all of the guys motivated when they already got the bag?

And the Portal and NIL are exaggerated issues for OSU. And a prime example of that over blown premise is just a few days ago in getting a 4star QB, AND a WR considered to be the best in the country regardless of class. If OSU's NIL was so weak, we for damn sure wouldn't have gotten Smith out of South FL.
And as far as OSU not playing frosh, that's greatly exaggerated as well. UGA, Bama and LSU play just as many frosh as OSU has. OSU, Bama, UGA and LSU all have deep teams, so few frosh play, but the best do indeed make the 2 deep. Guys like:biggrin:allan Hayden, Jyaire Brown, Sonny Styles, Caden Curry and CJ Hicks all saw PT whether on their respective sides of the ball or on special teams.

Well, I drove a clunker camaro in college, and these guys are driving Lambos, Mercedes, and Ferraris. Add to the freshman equation of the 'extra' one or two years for Covid, and that additional experience in size, strength, and just plain whatever helps keep players in uniform for a longer time. Mayhaps the portal will thin out these 'super-seniors' by transferring so more freshmen are brought in and having more PT available. Guess we'll see how class balancing will play out in the future as well. Seems to be more moving parts than yesteryear. Bet Pantoni has a couple more 'duties to be assigned' on his resume.
