LSU Tigers (official thread)

2020 LSU reminds me of 1999 OSU in the sense that they lost so much talent that any kind of top top 10 pre season expectations were ridiculous. I don't care if it is LSU or OSU, yeah those guys you see now will eventually be good but it's just asking too much too soon.

The only long term thing I'd be concerned about as an LSU fan is if they are back on the "if but for QB" merry go round every year because this guy clearly isn't the answer and you are starting over with another one next year (I would assume).

I'd be more than concerned, I'd kind of just accept it and appreciate the ridiculous confluence of circumstances that resulted in one of the greatest offenses in CFB history and a NC.

Adding Joe Brady was a remarkable stroke of luck that I don't see happening again for them. The guy just happened to be down the road in New Orleans. If not for that hire, 2019 LSU would likely have been another 10-11 win team with a frustrating offense. Joe Burrow likely would have been a pretty decent QB who some NFL team took a late-round flier on. But, Joe Brady did take that job and the Joe/Joe pairing was just one of those magical combos that come around once in a blue moon. Like Cam Newton/Gus Malzahn.

Ed Orgeron did not become a Saban or Meyer level HC magically over the 2018-19 off-season. Unless he's a savant for finding transcendent OC hires, LSU will be back to who they were for most of the 2010s. It wouldn't shock me if he's on a quick downward slope similar (but maybe not as rapid) to Gene Chizik after his NC at Auburn.

Everyone making excuses now that because Stingley wasn’t playing is the reason they lost... Stingley only covers 1 guy...

i haven’t heard anyone making that excuse.

i don’t think the outcome would have changed, but i think it would have definitely helped.
I apologize as I might have generalized... i saw some “prognosticators” saying they were right but there models didn’t factor in Stingley not being there... so I ASSumed most national folks and ESPN would be making the same case

we lack depth in the secondary right now, so losing Stingley as a late scratch really hurt.
had no time to prep for his absence. And we truly have no one else on his level.

Ricks will be a good one, but a true Freshman and made some rookie mistakes.

Jay Ward has been banged up and missed most of the fall camp and it showed.

Daren Evan is an FCS transfer because his old team ain’t playing this year. And well, not to be mean, but there is probably a reason he was FCS.

Cordale Flott should be a nickel guy but was asked to be more of a true corner. And he’s not one.

the safeties on the other hand:
Todd Harris coming back from major knee surgery and looks timid to take/give a hit. Hopefully that confidence level comes back to where it was pre injury.

Mo Hampton took a few terrible angles yesterday. I expected better than that from a starting CF on the baseball team at least.

JaCoby Stevens is a stud. Best player in that side the ball. Period.

OSU could just as easily be in the same kind of fix if we lost Wade and had to face a top shelf passing attack.

I think a lot of our fans (not calling out any one here) need to wait and see OSU play a live opponent before they get too cocky. The 2019 secondary is gone. Only thing working in our favor is the lack of a Leach type passing attack in the B1G this year.

and judging by watching our offense yesterday, it’s not like they practiced against a top flight passing attack either

That's the real bitch of it for you guys, replacing the entire offense at the same time.

I was thinking if that were OSU replacing Fields, Davis and Wade (plus about 14-15 other guys and two coordinators) yesterday, how much different would it really have been?

Captain Obvious observation though, you guys are proper fucked at QB.

the scary part is the line and RB.
while those guys weren’t “starters” last year, 4 of the 5 OL got significant playing time last year. and all 3 RB were in the regular rotation.
