LSU Tigers (official thread)

for anyone who was curious:

  • other games in state of Florida are happening.
  • Florida has other sports traveling for away games today (something their AD said was impossible for the football team)
  • Florida football is hosting recruits today
  • 80° and sunny in Gainesville right now
  • ND and NC State playing IN a hurricane
  • UGA and USCe figured out how to still play
So far literally every excuse they have for not playing this weekend has not come to pass.
Especially them going ahead with all other activities planned for today except the LSU game.

Florida fan's go to responds when these are brought up when questioning why we not playing this weekend:

Why is LSU scared to play 11/19?

because we could be playing NOW and neither team loses a home game and the revenue that generates. Why the hell should we lose out on $5 million + revenue from a home game just so y'all can heal up for a month?

I'm not normally one who buys into conspiracy theories, but damn if UF ain't making it look more and more like they just had no interest in actually playing against LSU this weekend, and are using this storm as an excuse.

They are scared of Coach O's HUMMA...

holy crap! Lou Holtz calling it like it is on XM Radio.

simply asking: why aren't they playing the game today?

said all of the reasons and excuses for postponing applies to South Carolina/Georgia, Miami/FSU, NC St./Notre Dame, So. Florida/whoever they played, etc.

said it benefits LSU to get this game played and benefits the gators NOT to play the game.
said by rule, it's the home team's decision on moving game dates/times/locations.

so, if Florida wants people to stop speculating and quit bashing UF, then tell us all while you're not playing today.
tell us why you're the only school that STILL doesn't have a solution to the game for this weekend.
why are UF fans calling insistent upon playing 11/19 when it was completely doable to play this weekend.

said if they can't answer those questions, then people will speculate, and that speculation won't be pretty for Florida.

Move the cocktail party to the 22nd at Georgia. Hold the LSU/Fla game the 29th in Jacksonville. I'm sure LSU fans will snap up the hotels from Georgia fans.

Georgia gets an extra home game as compensation and the city of Jacksonville doesn't suffer from losing the cocktail party.

also not a terrible idea.

another one I heard:

play @ Arkansas 10/29 (currently both LSU and Arky have a bye that week).
play South Alabama on 11/12 (USA currently has a bye, that date now open for LSU due to moving Arkansas game)
play @ Florida on 11/19.

Arkansas is the kicker here. would they agree to the move?
USA would take the money and swap their bye from the week before LSU game to week after LSU game.
Florida gets us on the date they want us rather than the date they were scheduled.
LSU gets to keep their home game and the $ that comes with it, plus eliminates the "3 road games in 13 days" argument.

the LSU/Florida game scheduled for Saturday in Gainesville has been cancelled due to Hurricane Matthew. will not be rescheduled.

LSU, Florida to play in Baton Rouge on Nov. 19, will buy out nonconference games

LSU and Florida have come to an agreement on a makeup date for their game that was postponed on Oct. 8 by Hurricane Matthew.

LSU will now host Florida on Nov. 19, with the two teams buying out their nonconference games with South Alabama and Presbyterian. In return for taking the home game this year, LSU will now play at Florida in 2017 and 2018 before resuming the usual every other year home-and-home rotation for the rivalry game.

"The SEC Commissioner's Regulations requires each football team play all eight conference games in a season in order to be eligible to compete for a divisional title and play in the SEC Championship Game," said the SEC in the release. "Had the game not been rescheduled, Florida and LSU would have been ineligible to compete for the SEC title this season."

I'm all good with this being a rule. Good rule to have to make sure everyone is on same page and even playing field.

But what confuses is me is how literally nobody knew this rule existed until the announcement of the rescheduling.

LSU, Florida, almost every media outlet out there. and even the SEC office all said the divisions would be decide by winning % if this game wasn't played.
they even confirmed 7-1 Bama would go over 6-1 LSU ; and 6-1 Florida would go over 6-2 Tennessee when presented those hypotheticals.

so where the hell did this rule come from all of a sudden? why wasn't this stated publicly as soon as speculation started running wild on how to decide the divisions? why isn't it actually written on the Commissioner's Regulations page that has been linked in countless articles?
