combination of things has lead to the slow death of the mystique that was Death Valley.

the administration has been gradually killing on campus tailgating. Charging for the right to tailgate in areas that had always been free. regulating everything from tents to tables in those areas.
parking on campus is a nightmare if you don’t have season tickets. you have to pay to have access to certain areas, but can’t pay in advance. so you got to show up early as fuck, drive to one part of campus to get your pass, then drive to wherever you’re wanting to park.
pricing common fan out of the stadium. corporations now own huge chunks of the stadium that were once filled with actual fans instead of people just there for the status of being there.
the concessions are now absolutely terrible and several sections seem to run out of food shortly after halftime.
piped in music has made the band mostly irrelevant during games.

so now, the real Death Valley might, MIGHT, make one appearance a year.
and even then, it’s got to be the right mix of circumstances for it to happen.

after we score, usually coincides with the TV timeout, we have a “you suck” chant along with a lil turn the band plays.

as you can imagine, college kids add an extra word to that when So Carolina come to town.


one year, somehow the entire north half of the stadium managed to get in perfect synch to chant “Fuck you, Saban!” during a Bama game.

about once a year they try to bring it back and the chant just gets louder than the previous time.

Good, the band and the crowd need to be in it. The more you hear the crowd on TV the better the experience is at home and in the stadium.

someone needs to tell that to Joe Alleva (or whoever the hell is in charge of game day at the stadium).

too much piped in music or ads on the video board.
as in they’ll start playing this shit over the band at times.

takes the crowd right out of it.

and then heaven for bid college kids start cursing.
there’s like 3 band songs that just don’t get played anymore due to profanity coming from a student section.
