This is an interesting move by Fournette. Idk if this will set a precedent like many seem to believe, but I do see a number of players may take this route instead of playing in a meaningless bowl if they feel that their draft stock is high enough. It's not much different than passing on the combine for possible high draft picks

not an unexpected move.
That ankle hasn't been right since fall camp. and every time he's played on it he's aggravated it.

so its absolutely in his best interest to not play.

I think it is as a number of players are playing in bowl games injured, and have done so throughout the Year. The fact that he's doing it, and basically knowingly doing it to protect his draft stock is what makes this unprecedented, and may set a small trend. Let's not forget that Fournette was also a player that was talked about as possibly sitting this year to protect his draft stock as well. We're not far off in CFB from a kid playing and having a great 2yrs, and saying screw my 3rd year because I could get injured and sitting and training for the draft

i'm not a fan of guys sitting like that. but in hindsight maybe it would have been the right move for him. on a selfish now i wish he was playing just so i could watch him one last time in an LSU uni.

fortunately for LSU, we got a pretty damn good one behind him too.

Been following this thread and the McCafrey one. The need for product for TV has created such a change - 12/13 game schedules, CCGs, playoff games, games on less than 7 days rest, it all takes a toll in what is already a brutal season. Further, this is a long season placed on kids almost all of whom have yet to reach 21. Compare this to the injury rate in the NFL where the average player is probably close to 25 or 26.

My guess is that the mindset of the average player is to play every game they can to include a trip to some bowl game that the rest of the world sees as meaningless. When a team votes not to accept a game - I seem to recall Notre Dame once refusing to go to a game they felt was below their dignity - it will be a rare moment in sports history.

I don't care about his drop rate, that is the coolest name in CFB....maybe all of sport
