LSU 28, Florida 24 (final)

They count, but if ut loses again (quite likely IMO) and UF wins out they would hold the tie breaker over the other 5 sec east teams (uga, sc, uk, vandy, and tenn).

Exactly right Palpie. I was rooting for UT over UGA, only because I thought that UT had a greater chance of another loss than did UGA (to someone else than UF). 'Course, while another UT loss would let us control our own destiny, I think the 'Ole Ball Coach will take us to ruin the whole deal and send us to one of those Not-yet-2008 Bowls.

Steve should have beaten us last year, and did in his first year. He has a better D now than then, which sucks, and is recruiting well.

While we are out of it this year, I would really love another crack at the Corn Dogs in Atlanta. The way things are going though, we'll prolly play and lose to Zooker in December.

After watching the replay, LSU got some of the most favorable spots I've ever seen in a game.

Are you including that spot they got at the end after that little option left to set up (I think it was 4th down, but maybe only 3rd) and about 6 or 12 inches?

I don't think they showed a replay... but... it looked like that was stopped about 2 or 3 yards short.

The announcers didn't say anything, so I though I may have just been mistaken as to where the ball carrier was actually stopped... (meaning he squirted through the pile more than I thought and the camera angle was blocked by bodies... )

That one along with Hester's 4th down run that appeared to be stopped short.

This is true.

Must be what they call "the home field advantage" or the fact the referees just wanted to depart Tiger Stadium after the game without being shot at.

The one set up the other, then, right?

Yeah... the 4th down run could have gone either way, but... I was completely confused when they went to line up that play and they had less than a yard to go...

(Assuming we're talking about all the same stuff)

At any rate... yeah... some pretty sketchy stuff.

Did anyone see the shot Highsmith took on Tebow as he was running out of bounds? I don't care what the letter of the law is, that Tebow was still .0000438 inches in bounds so it was legal to hit him and all that BS, that was a cheap shot. I will be embarrassed if anyone at OSU ever takes such a blatantly late, unnecessary shot at anyones legs. Maybe the worst part was the Les Miles was right there, cussing out the ref for making that call, condoning the actions of his players. I realize that you want to hit the quarterback whenever possible, but that was an incredibly dirty play that epitomizes the way that LSU has been coached all season.

I completely disagree......guy was inbounds and was fair game.

If Tebow wants to avoid contact, get out of bounds earlier....he got as much yardage as he could and ducked out at the last possible second, but Highsmith hit him on the field of play.....it was a terrible late hit call, and there was nothing dirty about it

If you want to see dirty, look up the clips of LSU VS. South Carolina from this year...there were some extremely dirty LSU hits in that piece

But again, Highsmith hit him in bounds and Les Miles had every right to go nuts

I wasn't arguing that it was an illegal hit. I was arguing that it was a very dirty hit. And IIRC, the call was unsportsmanlike, not late hit, but I could be wrong.

YouTube - LSU Football - Highsmith Late Hit on Tebow?

Watch the replay again. And count how many steps that Tebow had been running parallel to the 35 yard line (and he even took a step back at the very end that lost about 1/2 yard). I counted 5. 5 steps that he was not trying AT ALL to gain any more yardage.

Your point about him getting out of bounds earlier, yeah that would have been a good idea. After mentioning yourself all the cheap shots that LSU took against South Carolina, it would have been a great idea to run full speed into the Tiger's sideline where he could get clotheslined by an LSU player who was "just protecting himself."

I hate Florida as much as anyone right now. I tried really really hard to justify Highsmith's actions in my head. But I watched the replay like 10 times, and I just couldn't. Sure, it may have been technically within the rules of a late hit call. But it was an absolutely unnecessary, dirty play that I have come to expect from a Les Miles coached team.

If I'm a coach, and a player w/ the ball is still in bounds and can be legally hit, I want my player making a play.....in that same game Tebow being forced out of bounds made an icredible throw for a touchdown

By the way, Tebow is one of the most athletic QB's in the country....even if he appears to be going out of bounds, the last thing I want is my player holding back in fear of getting a late hit, only to see him turn it up the field or make a crazy throw

I think the penalty was an example of over-protecting the QB

You remeber last year, Mathias Kiwenuka, having Vince Young in the grasp, and letting him go b/c he didn't want a personal foul for slamming him to the turf after having him in the grasp.....and truthfully, I think that had Mathias finished his tackle it probably would have been called a pile-drive...anyways, since Mathias let up it resulted in a huge gain and Tennessee won the game

It's a catch 22 as a defender anymore these days....even so, if a player is still within the lines of the field and they have the ball, I want my player playing until the whistle.....again, Highsmith may have looked dirty making that hit, but think about when he launched himself, who he was making a play against, the importance of the game, and last but not least the guy was within the field of play

I can see your point, but to me it's unfair for a defnsive player to have to judge what is taking yourself out of a play by running out of bounds vs. a guy running towards the sideline looking to make a play

one other thing to point out, Highsmith leaves his feet with his head down...it looks to me like hes preparing his body for a collision with Tebow...it makes me think that he believes Tebow is going to make a move up the field and he's going to force him out

Even if that isn't the case, from the behind the play angle, it's clear Tebow was hit in bounds, and it wasn't evenmuch contact
