LS Bryce Haynes (Official Thread)

Had a friend in Seattle who was the LS for the Seahawks.

Worked a full time job (financial consultant), practiced on Wed/Thurs/Fri afternoon, game on Sunday.

League minimum for about (he said) 3 hours of "work" a week.

Yup, my kids are going to be longsnappers.

Now there is a position (LS) you don't see a lot of recruiting activity for. One of those positions that if you ever hear his name called during a game, he probably screwed up. Hey, Ohio State has a great medical school. I hope we get him.

Within the last year or so, whever there's a FG attempt, TV graphics show the names of the long snapper and holder, along with the kicker. Long snappers and holders will never be glamorous, but at least their importance is being more recognized.

OSU, NC, & ND are all GREAT schools, some of the best in the world, but Harvard is #1...Pick Harvard kid, they can never take that degree away from you and the doors it opens are truly unreal. (But if you pick OSU you can still go to Harvard Med!)

Harvard does not offer athletic scholarships and with his father being a surgeon he may not qualify for an academic schlorship if it is based on need.

Ivy League

If you're looking for Ivy League football - Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Cornell, Columbia, Dartmouth, and the University of Pennsylvania - don't bank on a football scholarship. Ivy league schools have Division I football programs, but athletic scholarships are not part of their scene. These schools are academically focused before anything else. Harvard and Yale offer big money in academic scholarships, so they don't have to mess with the athletic bucks. Not only are these student-athletes talented on the field, but they are brains when it comes to the books, as well.

True. Also, the kid may be smart enough to qualify for at least a partial academic scholarship with his dad footing the rest of the bill. Bottom line is, is the Harvard medical education that much better than an OSU one, to where he'd forego a full ride at OSU to potentially pay into six figures at Hardvard?

True as far as it goes. But Harvard and other Ivies typically can find some other basis for finding financial aid for an exceptional athlete who also fits their academic criteria.

Should this kid want to attend Harvard, Harvard will find a way to make it financially feasible, believe me.

Also, it's my opinion that if parents can afford to send their kid to an elite university that the kid is accepted to, then economic considerations almost dictate they go there. The value of an education at Harvard, Stanford or Duke is phenomenal in pure dollar terms.

It's a misnomer to assume IVY athletes have to pay money. My buddy played ice hockey at Brown and was taken care of. They don't give athletic scholarships but they can certainly cover it up with other support.

I think it's a bit ridiculous IVY league schools play this game as if they don't give athletic scholarships when they do, but under a different guise.

Since when do students attend medical school during undergrad?

As mentioned, hardly anyone pays the full tuition at Harvard, especially a varsity athlete. He can't make a bad decision out of the schools he's mentioned.
