LS Bryce Haynes (Official Thread)

It's a misnomer to assume IVY athletes have to pay money. My buddy played ice hockey at Brown and was taken care of. They don't give athletic scholarships but they can certainly cover it up with other support.

I think it's a bit ridiculous IVY league schools play this game as if they don't give athletic scholarships when they do, but under a different guise.

What he said. If I were to have wrestled at an Ivy League school (which at one point looked likely), I would have looked very promising to pay 5-10k a year with board, obviously lower than OSU. These schools have ways of offsetting the costs, and it is the one regret I have for not taking up atletics at the collegiate level.

I had a friend of mine go to Harvard. He went to Tulane for undergrad because they offered him a full ride for academics. Then he went to Harvard for grad school on student aid. He said admissions for grad school were less restrictive. After grad school, he taught for two years on an Indian Reservation and had his school loan waived. It was the most creative way to get a "free" Ivy League education I had seen. Also, it points out anecdotally that you can go to Harvard for Post Grad work.

I want my Grandsons to go to Ivy League Schools then do Peace Corps for 2 years and ALL expenses of school are forgiven!

GO BUCKS!

Unfortunately, that's not how the Peace Corps works. You can get loan deferment, but certainly no forgiveness.

Back to Bryce. If he truly is as talented of a long snapper as it sounds, it's great offer. Our LS is always on scholarship anyways. They generally have to earn it through walk-on status though. If he's going to step in from day one and be the starting LS, as it sounds, come on down Bryce.

As has been discussed before... Ivies do not offer 'scholarhips' of any kind, not athletic or academic. They offer need-based financial aid, which can be very, very comprehensive at Harvard which, along with big $ schools Yale and Princeton, led the way about a decade ago doing away with the bulk of loans, and offering grants and other such financial aid to families that qualify.

This goes as much for the concert-level violinist as it does the football player (many Ivy athletes would argue moreso )...and anyone in-between that gets in... now, as any Ohio kid that goes to tOSU and is not on an athletic scholarship, Bryce would be eligible to use any local scholarships or awards toward his tuition and room and board at Harvard...

You can if the school decides to go ahead and waive it, ala smithlabs' example above. The Peace Corps doesn't decide if Harvard or Cornell or Brown or whomever will waive the loan...the school that issues the loan does.
