That picture easily illustrates why this guy picked OSU: Tressel's emphasis on family atmosphere. How many signing day pics have you seen where the entire family is there, including the grandparents? Seems like it's usually with the high school coach and other school types. Gotta love Mom's and Grandma's buckeye necklaces too!

Bryce's commitment was a shock to me. I was fully expecting him to head to Notre Dame. Very pleased with the results of picking up one of the best specialists at Long Snapper to come out of high school. Ever.

4 years, we are locked up. Love the emphasis on the special teams. I hope he becomes a fantastic student-athlete.

The more I think about signing Bryce, the more I think what a genius idea this was for the staff to pursue him. If you're going to give a scholarship to a long snapper anyways, might as well sign one of the best in the nation. And might I add, one that not only meets but exceeds the qualities that you look for in a starting long snapper... even before he ever suits up for the S&G.

I think Bryce is going to be a big piece to the puzzle for improving our special teams next year, going into the future. We've got a young P, K, and now LS that will only get better as they go along.

The thing is that we weren't going to offer one anyways - I think that's the source of confusion. Added to the fact that there could be a monster class on the horizon next year, a lot of people might not think this was a genius idea.

Seems like a nice kid, though, and the situation is certainly intriguing.

I'm pretty sure that the starting long snapper has pretty much had a scholly most years under Tressel. Hence, we miles well get the best long snapper out there to give a scholarship.

Yep and the therein could lie the problem. From what I hear, Bryce is unlikely to start next year...he will certainly compete, but if he doesn't get the starting spot, we could have 2 long snappers on scholarship.

I'm not sure who will start, but whoever you think will, are they a senior? If so, then it doesn't cost tOSU this year, and if next years starting long snapper does in fact graduate, then there is that scholly. Bryce is potentially good enough that if you can get him, I don't see any problem having two schollys tied up for one year. More than one year and yea, it could be a numbers problem.

In my IMO:biggrin: Bryce brings the ability to win a game or two over his career, by not losing one with poor snaps to the punter and holder, that is definitely worth something.

What other LS is on scholarship? McQuaide is graduating right?

I have no problem having 2 scholarships spent on long snappers next season. It's not like there's never been a scholarship tied up for four years by another position that hasn't produced. If we have to depend on that 85th guy next season, we have bigger problems than worring about that guy being a long snapper.

I truly do not know, it was being discussed that there are quality returning long snappers that may start next year, and Tressels history shows the starting long snapper gets a scholly. Either way, with Bryce's skills, I like this move.

Nope, he'll be a RS Sophomore and he is pretty good...from what I hear, not much different than McQuaide. Just have to wait and see, I just found it interesting.
